It’s that new ish from Decipher, a quick little video for his remix of Kanye’s “Devil in a New Dress”. He’s rechristened the joint “Smile While I Bleed”, basically an extended verse where he takes some time to reflect and get some heavy thoughts off his chest. De’s always been that dualistic MC, weaving back and forth between punchline raps and the introspective, this release is more of the latter and it’s hard to find any faults with it. It’s a freebie up on bandcamp so go head and grab it via the widget below.

This school will service the most needy — orphans and slum children — providing affordable education for them and advancing their educational pursuits.
Since 1999, DYC has been the only community primary school available for these students. But we are excited to construct this secondary school in partnership with DYC and the Lenana community.

Worst Ever: NYU Freestyle Ettiquette
The freestyle cypher is a staple of Hip-Hop. It’s so ingrained in the original culture that it’s impossible to try and discredit it’s importance. But that’s not to say it’s always executed correctly. In fact, one would argue that unless the cypher is composed of veterans who can adjust and adapt to the rhythm of it all, then it’s pretty much always awkward. Such is the case in the following clip I came across in the twitter verse. Dumbfoundead recently had a show in NY and a lot of different hip-hop heads came through, including special guest Decipher. Well when it came time for an open mic cypher, too many MC’s got caught up in tryna grab their time to shine without paying attention to who’s in line to spit next. Case in point, watch Decipher get M-C-blocked numerous times. Disrespectful? Arguably, perhaps. Awkward? Completely. The art of it all is knowing when it’s your time to step up, and your time to fall back… something that mainly comes with experience.
New Decipher Music & Video – “Decipher That” [Free DL]
New drop from Philly’s Decipher. Ill have to share my thoughts later but this one is reportedly for the hip hop heads. Its also a free dl from his bandcamp via the widget below.
[edit] OK, I’ve had the chance to peep the track. First things first, this beat knocks. It’s a dope track that brings him back to his more raw Hip-Hop roots, the song is a rapper’s rap of sorts. Dope drop from MUzO and great use of the projector for the visuals.

The Freshmen: Andy Ha – Would It Matter ft Decipher
It’s been a few weeks since our last Freshmen feature, where we feature artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves and making their official debut. Remember it’s important that you the readers vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News.
So it was great timing that an artist by the name of Andy Ha decided to drop his first single called “Would It Matter” featuring none other than Decipher (this guy seems to enjoying lending his flow to new talent). This seems to be another case where talent runs in the family as Andy is the brother to body beat boxing extraordinaire, James Ha. This track is a mid-tempo R&B joint completely written, produced, and engineered by Andy. Production values are pretty sharp, and featuring De was a good look as it helped switch up the pace and offer some variety. It’s a farily promising start, let’s see where Andy can take it from here.
But of course, it’s your opinion that matters the most. What do you think? Thumbs up or down? Has Andy earned a spot on the a-Tunes news feed?
PS – we’re looking for some fresh, new female talent to feature too! If you think you got what it takes, or know of someone who does, drop us a line! info [at] a-Tunes.net!
Critic’s Corner: Decipher – The Effect
It’s been years since we’ve seen a full-length LP from Philadelphia rapper Decipher. Sure, we’ve seen a couple mixtapes from him along with a plethora of feature spots on other artists’ songs but those aren’t enough to truly gauge how an artist has evolved over time compared to an actual, conceptualized album. But this changed at the top of 2011, when Decipher dropped his long awaited return, The Effect. The MUzO artist did a good job of building anticipation for the album, but does it live up to the hype? We’re gonna find out.
Verseatile Releases MV for “You Can Bring It” ft Decipher
Just last week, Verseatile dropped his EP Worlds Apart and here is the first MV to go with it for the single “You Can Bring It” featuring Decipher. When listening to the EP I thought this was one of the stronger tracks on the album but unfortunately I don’t feel the MV did the song justice. The 80s-esque workout montage just came off way too cheesy for my tastes. I understand what they were going for here but I think it could have been executed a lot better. Worst of all Decipher is completely absent from the video. It all just feels a bit incomplete. The song may be strong but it makes me wonder if Verseatile would have been better off pushing another song as the lead single.
Schoolboy DUKE x Decipher Release “Catch Up” [Free DL]
Here’s a new collaboration joint from Schoolboy DUKE and Decipher called “Catch Up”. It looks like DUKE wanted to switch things up and try something new, dropping a track unlike anything we’ve heard from him before. He drops his trademark sung hooks and pop-friendly raps and trades it for something a little grimier and darker. Only problem is that it came off unconvincing and put him out of his element. Decipher was the highlight of the track but I’m not sure even he completely salvaged this misfire. The song ain’t bad per se, just awkward; but that’s just my opinion. If you’re feeling it then grab it now cause it’s a free DL.
Saving Thomas x Decipher x Jason Min Are “Reaching Out”
Philly stand up! Three staples of the AA music scene in the Illadelph have collabed on a new track called “Reaching Out”. You got band Saving Thomas, rapper Decipher and one-man show Jason Min all one track, mixed and mastered courtesy of Andy Ha (Repercussion Studios). Just wanted to share this track with you now, but I’ll have to update with my thoughts on it later after I get a chance to hear it myself.
[update] Just heard the track. I gotta say, I’m a pretty big fan. On paper it’s kind of an odd mix of talent but they all blended together beautifully here and created a pretty great song. Props to everyone involved, this is a winner. [/update]
