The Non-Video Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 11/16/11

Rap, more than any other genre, tends to lend itself to a surplus of mixtape tracks, leaks, and remixes. It’s a part of the musical fabric that makes up the style. Taking beats from other people’s tracks and putting your own spin on it, improving upon and out rhyming the other man… it’s to be expected. But the sheer quantity of remixes means that somethings gotta give, and in the Youtube generation that means we see many “videos” without much video footage at all, if any. Instead, rappers use the medium to quickly broadcast their remix to the world, often forgoing videos in the interest of time and effort – perhaps settling on slapping some cover art on their and calling it a day. Today’s round-up is a collection of those videos… no need to pay attention to the clip here. Just press play, move on to another tab in your browser and enjoy.

Timothy Flu Takes Off With the “Spaceship” MV

Continuing promotions for his Whatchu Lookin’ At mixtape released last week, Timothy Flu has dropped the “Spaceship” music video (no relation to the IAMMEDIC track of the same name). It’s a cool track with a chill beat selection though the video is a bit more hit or miss. The night scenes look sharp but the day shots are much more if a mixed bag, especially considering the questionable special effects choices. In other words, Spaceship makes for a better listen than a watch.

And a caring word of advice to artists shooting a video – we know it’s hard work and the weather won’t always agree with your schedule, but if it’s hot – carry around a towel to wipe the sweat cause that just-ran-a-marathon look is not a good one.

Timothy Flu – ‘Whatchu Lookin’ At?’ [Mixtape]

SkyHigh’s Timothy Flu has just dropped his latest completed project, the Whatchu Lookin’ At? mixtape. This digital release has 16 tracks and a number of producers and vocal features including The Yellow Boyz’ PassDa on the previously leaked “Anyways”. The tape is up for streaming and track-by-track DL via the widget below. A complete DL link is coming so we’ll update with that once it’s gone public.

Timothy Flu x PassDa (of the Yellow Boyz) Collab for “Anyways”

By now it’s become Sunday tradition for new music to surface from Timothy Flu. For those that may be out of the loop, he’s started promoting the Watchu Lookin At mixtape due next week and this is the second leak off that release. Fellow Southern rapper PassDa, from the group The Yellow Boyz, has a guest spot on this chill joint. It’s a free DL too, in case you were wondering.

Timothy Flu is All About “Today”

Shifting gears and backing off his Asphalt & Aerosol campaign, Flu – now known as Timothy Flu, is preparing to drop a mixtape entitled Whatchu Lookin At. The first leak off the release is the song “Today”. This is a pretty chill release with a west-coast inspired type of feel. The mixtape is slated to drop in two weeks on August 28th. But for now, you can get this song as as a free DL here.

Flu Reaches the “Finish Line”

It’s the top of a new week and you know what that means… it’s a new drop from Flu‘s 8 week Asphalt & Aerosol promotional campaign. This week’s joint is called Finish Line and is a high energy track that suits Flu well. I wouldn’t say this is the strongest song we’ve heard from him thus far from the project but it’s another fair addition to the playlist. Like what you hear? Well if you’ve been keeping up you probably already know it’s a free DL.

Flu & Passda Tell You Who Is “So Perfect”

The 5th week is upon us, leaving us with just 3 more drops from the A&A sessions by Flu. The latest is a remix of Lil Wayne’s “With You” which has now been re-dubbed “So Perfect” with Sky High affiliate Passda riding shotgun as the guest feature. This track is geared more for the ladies and like all the other joints before it, is available as a free DL. Be on the lookout for his next mixtape,Whatchu Lookin At, that’s dropping in a few weeks.

Flu Shares “Hate On Me”

Well, we’re pretty much at the half way mark of the Asphalt & Aersol 8 week leak campaign, with the latest song – “Hate on Me” making the cut as the 4th release in the series. It’s kind of a shame the project was delayed to the point that Flu opted to release the song for free one at a time because a lot of them have been fairly strong. So far it looks like A&A could have been a pretty decent project. DL “Hate on Me” for free here.

Listen to Flu’s “Dreamworld”

The threequel in Flu‘s octalogy of weekly leaks is here and it’s called “Dreamworld”, taking the series in a slightly pop direction. I’m like the beat, but was a bit lukewarm on the hook though it admittedly grew on me by the time the song wrapped up. By my count, there are five more weeks of Asphalt & Aerosol leaks left so continued to stay a-Tuned. The mp-tres is available here as a free DL.

Flu Stays “In The Air” with Jeniside of the Yellow Boyz

Here’s another leak off Flu‘s upcoming project Asphalt & Aerosol featuring Jeniside of affiliate group the Yellow Boyz. The cut is called “In the Air” and is the 2nd of 8 weekly drops from A&A. I’m liking the beat selection but didn’t find it as strong as his release from last week – “Godzilla King Kong“. If you like what you hear from the Southern MC, then you can get the song for free here. Check back with us next week for the 3rd drop!
