FM Performs on the Tonight Show

Wow. That’s all I can say. Far East Movement & supporting vocalist Dev had the opportunity to perform on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, further stamping their presence on America’s consciousness. I’ve expressed before about how “Like a G6″ isn’t my favorite FM song but this clip still had me hyped up. It’s not everyday we see one of our artists on such a big national stage. Kevnish’s voice sounded shot though. And I don’t care what anyone else says, I’m still convinced Dev is a really convincing chanting robot. Congrats to the guys for coming this far! Great performance. Watch it now because knowing NBC, it won’t be up on Youtube much longer.

FM Releases the “Rocketeer” MV ft. Ryan Tedder

Here it is! “Rocketeer” is arguably one of the most popular singles off FM’s major label debut album Free Wired and I can’t help but to agree – it really is a strong single. That’s why I was excited to hear that it was going to be the follow up single to “Like a G6” as I actually find it to be a much more enjoyable song anyways. So to properly push the new single, FM did a proper music video featuring guest vocalist Ryan Tedder of One Republic fame. It’s a pretty dope release all the way around. The end kind of reminds me of the film Radio Flyer, if anyone remembers that one. Glad to see this single get the proper video support!

Paul Dateh x Dawen Cover FM’s “Rocketeer”

It’s AA love all around. Paul Dateh & Dawen put down a smooth jazzy cover of  the Far East Movement’s new single “Rocketeer” off their Free Wired album, originally featuring Ryan Tedder of One Republic. I’m loving this version, it’s completely different, plays to the strengths of both musicians and still gives the nod to the fellas from FM. I wouldn’t mind seeing a Dateh x Dawen EP!

Far East Movement’s Free Wired Debuts at #24 – 17K Sold

When you’re not an industry insider it’s a little hard to come by Soundscan numbers but based on what I was able to find, FM’s major label debut effort Free Wired sold approximately 17K, landing it the number 24 spot for the week. To put it in perspective, Jin’s major label debut back in 2004 reportedly reeled in just under 20K in sales giving him the #54 spot for that week. But back then Jin didn’t have a top 10 hit or several high profile nation wide tours to help but all in all it shows record sales aren’t what it used to be. The number one spot for the past week went to Lil Wayne, whose I AM NOT A HUMAN BEING, sold nearly 119K.

So long story short, the fellas of FM did OK in the context of today’s album sales trends, and especially for a brand new group who only recently started building up a nationwide buzz, but their first week certainly wasn’t a runaway success story. It’s still an uphill battle for the guys, and all Asian-American artists in general.

Far East Movement Releases Major Label Debut – Free Wired

Today is the day. October 12th, 2010. The Far East Movement has dropped their official major label debut with Cherrytree/Interscope Records and it’s called Free Wired. Of course “Like a G6″ is on there, along with a couple previously heard tracks (“Girls on the Dance Floor”) but there are a bunch of new songs on here too, featuring the likes of Snoop, Ryan Tedder and more. Whether or not this album is any good is yet to be determined but it’s a huge milestone both for the group and the Asian American music community as a whole. If you’re a fan of the group and their music then I urge you to support them and purchase a copy of their album. It is available on iTunes, Amazon, and retailers nation wide. Congrats to FM on their debut.

FM Interviews w/ MTV News

As FM’s star power continues to rise with their upcoming Free Wired album release and single “Like a G6″ shooting up the charts across the country, it’s no wonder they landed an interview with MTV News. It’s not a very long clip or article but they do briefly touch upon their transition from lyrical hip-hop to more dance oriented music, a topic that some have been critical of. Regardless of genre or style, it’s good to see them continue to gain recognition among a wider audience.

Check out the article in full after the break or over at MTV.
