Critic’s Corner: Far East Movement – Free Wired
Yes, we know this album is 5 months old. But we’re still digging ourselves out of the perpetual backlog of album reviews and we definitely couldn’t leave out one of the most significant releases in years for the AA music scene. Free Wired is the album that helped propel the Far East Movement from the “up and coming” stage they have been at for years to the “they’ve made it big” stage where you can hardly go a day in public without hearing one of their songs. So is Free Wired the result of great marketing and luck? Or is it truly worth the mass exposure and recognition that it’s gotten?
Far East Movement Wins “Best International Artist” and Performs
Roughly a good percentage of the world was up and on their computers tweeting back and forth about Asian music’s biggest night, the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Far East Movement was already scheduled to be at the award show but it proved to be an epic event as they both won an award and got to perform both their hits; “Girls on the Dance Floor” and “Like a G6.” They received a special honor for the category, “Best International Artist,” at their first ever presence at the award show! As eyes were glued for their performance, fans in the audience really picked up when “Like a G6″ was being performed and showed the group a lot of love. Congratulations FM!
Far East Movement Releases Major Label Debut – Free Wired
Today is the day. October 12th, 2010. The Far East Movement has dropped their official major label debut with Cherrytree/Interscope Records and it’s called Free Wired. There’s a total of 10 tracks, 11 if you get it on iTunes (free bonus track). Of course “Like a G6″ is on there, along with a couple previously heard tracks (“Girls on the Dance Floor”) but there are a bunch of new songs on here too, featuring the likes of Snoop, Ryan Tedder and more. Whether or not this album is any good is yet to be determined but it’s a huge milestone both for the group and the Asian American music community as a whole. If you’re a fan of the group and their music then I urge you to support them and purchase a copy of their album. It is available on iTunes, Amazon, and retailers nation wide. Congrats to FM on their debut.
Far East Movement Interviews w/ HipHopDX

With the Far East Movement continuing to expand their presence in the music industry, it was only a matter of time before more and more people started catching on. HipHopDX, one of the biggest Hip-Hop sites, has a new feature interview with the group that dives into a few key topics like working with Interscope, how the game has changed and touring with Lady Gaga. It’s a dope read and you can catch it over at their site or after the break. This is only the beginning for them!
FM’s “Girls on the Dance Floor” Featured in Get Him to the Greek
FM’s got another major placement for their huge club hit “Girls on the Dance Floor”. It’s reportedly featured in the new comedy film Get Him to the Greek featuring Russell Brand and Jonah Hill. The song is supposedly played during a strip club scene. Judging by the description along with the cast, I’m going to guess this one isn’t for the kids. But either way it’s still an awesome accomplishment for the group. Congrats!

FM Stars in Short by Arowana Films
I’m a little late on this one but the Far East Movement have collaborated once again with one of their earliest video partners, Arowana Films, for a short that was entered into a film contest by YOMYOMF. It’s entitled Far East Futura and features some cool CGI effects along with some trademark FM tunes. It’s a pretty neat watch and I’m glad to see FM & Arowana have remained connected over the years.
This project was done in collaboration with youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com and FAR EAST MOVEMENT for their contest “Interpretations”. go to interpretationsfilm.com for more information.

FM Releases Tour MV for ‘Girls on the Dance Floor’
It’s about time! FM didn’t exactly shoot a regular video for their mega hit song ‘Girls on the Dance Floor’ but this is the next best thing! They’ve compiled footage and shot the official tour MV. Check it out as they wild out in Vegas, set to their arguably most talented tune. I’m still hoping they’ll do a proper MV for the track but with all that’s going on in their careers I can understand if they need to move forward and drop their first major label album. Three fingers up!
One crazy night in Las Vegas with the Far East Movement while on tour.

FM x Bruno Mars Post up Live Perf Remix of “Girls on the Dance Floor”
FM, who has been more recently known for their electro-pop influenced brand of hip-hop have a posted up an awesome upbeat remix of their hit ‘Girls On the Dance Floor’. They switched up by putting in live instrumentation completely with electric guitars and distortion. It’s refreshing twist to their song. I’m loving this.
FM x Quest Dance Crew Release Live Footage from Winter X Games 2010
Quest Dance Crew had the opportunity to link up again with FM at the 2010 Winter X Games in Aspen recently. They put on a wild show and have blessed up with some (all too brief) video clips from the event. Their live energy level is already off the charts so they had to bring out the oxygen tanks for support on this one! Looks like it was a blast.
