[Music Video] Magnetic North x Taiyo Na x Jin – “I Got My”
The folks behind the Home:Word album, Magnetic North & Taiyo Na have finally put out the music video to their song “I Got My” featuring Jin. But I doubt you’re ready for what you’re about to see as the crew has dug deep and reached out to all their contacts, friends, affiliates, etc to be a part of this MV. There are cameos from the Blue Scholars, Denizen Kane, Conchita Campos, DFD, Christina Chung, FM, Thomas Apartment, James Ha, Vienna Teng, DanAKADan, El Gambina, Cynthia Lin, Dawen, Bambu, DJ Phatrick, Kiwi, Heather Park, Vudoo, Lyrics, Manifest, Alfa, AJ Rafael, Jay Legaspi and a whole lot more. Those are just some of the musicians, there are a ton of activists, media folk, dancers, artists, students, educators, and more who also had a role. This is easily one of the dopest concepts put to music and unifying MV’s I’ve seen all year. Great release.

Heather Park Releases New Album – Stay
It’s been quite some time since Heather Park revealed her single “Trust You”, but the album it belongs to has finally dropped. Currently it is available from CD Baby, but look for it from other digital distributors soon. The album has 13 songs, 12 original and 1 remix. If the rest of the album is half as strong as the lead single then it should be a fairly solid release overall. For those of you in need of a new R&B fix, grab a copy and support her!
Heather Park Shares Harlem Performance Footage
Ever wonder what Heather Park sounds like live? You should check out the following clips taken from her recent show at the Shrine in Harlem. She’s posted up four songs, two from her upcoming album Stay and two from her previous release Dream in Pictures. The best part aside from the great live R&B vocals is that you get to hear a little context behind each song, making the viewing that much richer. She sings “Trust You”, “Endless Possibilities”, “3 Meals”, and “I Forgive You”. The girl may be tiny but she sure can sing with some soul.

Heather Park Interview w/ ChannelAPA
The NY based crooner and soul R&B songstress Heather Park got to sit down and talk with ChannelAPA. They talk about her start in music, placement in the movie West 32nd (great film btw), and her new song and upcoming album set to drop very soon. Heather’s been doing this for a while now and I’m really glad to see she’s still active and doing her thing. She may not have the visibility of a lot of the singers on Youtube now but she’s got a unique voice and talent that few can match.
NPR Report: “Asian-American Artists Break Into Soul Music”

If you’re looking to listen to something just a tad more cerebral than your typical MTV/VH1/Perez Hilton type of fair then I recommend you take a listen to this interview/report from NPR on Asian-Americans attempting to break into the mainstream Soul/R&B lane. They discuss artists such as Heather Park, Gerry Wu, Pinay, and Dawen. There are lots of things I agree with about what’s stated and represented hear, and some things I don’t agree with as much but I’ll leave that for another discussion. What do you guys think of what was said?

African-American icons like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Mary J. Blige are often associated with soul music. Even some white artists have found success in this genre. But Asian-American soul artists have yet to break through into the mainstream. Host Allison Keyes talks with culture and music critic Oliver Wang about a number of soulful Asian singers who are trying to reverse that trend.

Heather Park x Misnomer(s) Collab in the Works

That’s right. These talented Asian-American women of New York, singer Heather Park & Knewdles of Misnomer(s), are working on a track together! It looks like this is going to be on Heather’s album Stay, scheduled to be released soon (in May). I’m really looking forward to this collab. It’s awesome to see these ladies holding down their own!

Heather Park Releases ‘Trust You’ MV
Heather Park has got a new video out for her single ‘Trust You’ from her upcoming album Stay set to drop in May of this year. The song is sultry smooth and appealing with a video to match. Just a forewarning, it’s a bit risque as Heather shows off some of her well tone figure. In an interesting coincidence I finally got the chance to see West 32nd this past weekend, which prominently featured Heather’s song “Leave Me to Dream“. It’s been a while since I’ve heard new material from her, glad to see she’s ramping up to some new releases.
If you’re liking the track, she’s offered ‘Trust You’ as a free download so grab it while it’s hot.

Heather Park Interview w/ KoreanBeacon
Check out this interview KoreanBeacon did with soul/R&B artist Heather Park. This is honestly the first time I’ve had a chance to see a video interview of her even though I’ve been loosely following her for several years now. She’s immensly talented and I recommend you check out her work as well.
Heather Park was discovered in a quirky New York tale, an example of life imitating art in some ways. Park worked in a NYC deli frequented by the program director of Hot 97 who eventually got her demo into the hands of producer Steve Francis of Stush Music. Influenced equally by hip-hop beats and neo-soul sirens, Parks debut album is an intimate affair as her understated cool comes across in every syllable she sings. The title track has a trip-hop twinkle and The Life is a mesmerizing statement with bits and pieces of an orchestra popping in and out. Parks personal lyrics reflect on her experiences as a Korean-American but really she just wants to find her way as a citizen of life.We met Heather earlier this summer and we didn’t know what to expect. After a bit of coordination, we finally met up in her midtown studios. Who we discovered was not the Seoul Diva, but a woman who simply found joy in singing. There wasn’t pretense; just someone who talked about music and talked about what making music meant to her. She’s proud to be Korean-American and proud to be defying stereotypes and thankfully she’s got the pipes to break through. Rarely do you find someone who is comfortable in their own skin and willing to expose themselves. We hope she inspires those who are chasing a dream to sing.
