Traphik Releases the “Throw Em Out!” MV & the MixedApe Mixtape

In case you forgot Timothy De La Ghetto was an MC and not just a comedian he returns with a new MV for the single “Throw Em Out” from his brand new mixtape MixedApe. The video quality and editing is pretty fresh but I got to admit even though I don’t always think Traphik is funny, part of his appeal & charm is his silly antics. It’s a little off putting to see a “serious” production without more gags and spoofs. Whether you like the track or not, there are 19 other songs to sample from his new mixtape. Some songs you’ve likely heard before (Bedrock, Say Aah, I Rock Onesies, etc) and there are some new joints on there too. Look for collabs with Illmillion, Tommy C, Skip, Dee, Phlip, Trixx, Lil Crazed, D-Pryde, JRA, Legaci, Cathy Nguyen and more. It’s a free DL, just click the cover above.

Snapshot: JRA x Tommy C x Joseph Vincent x Lil Crazed x Traphik x Krystle Cruz x J Reyez & More Sing Aerosmith

OK, I know I’m posting this as part of our snapshot series and it’s not a photo, but what is a movie but a bunch of still images moving at many frames per second right? This is just one of those moments that I’m glad was captured and shared with the world. As many of you know, a bunch of Youtube stars were brought out to the Academy of Heroes event in Toronto. Well these guys don’t just perform together, they fellowship together too and it’s awesome to see them take their relationships past the professional and in the personal. It’s hard to spot everyone but I spied JRA, Tommy C of IBU, Joseph Vincent, Lil Crazed, Traphik, J Reyez and Krystle Cruz all belting out Aerosmith’s popular single.

Thai x IZ x Tommy C x J Reyez x Lil Crazed Release Teaser of “Girlfriend” MV

You didn’t think Tommy C, J Reyez, and Lil Crazed would visit the bay area without getting a ton of work done with 454 did you? Here’s more evidence that the artists kept busy as they dropped the teaser to a new MV they plan to release next month called “Girlfriend”. It’s another mixing bowl of Youtube talent and from the looks of it, this is another track for the ladies. As always from 454, it looks like the visuals are top-notch quality.

IBU x Illmocity Cover/Remix “What I Need” by Deepside [Free DL]

Two groups, IBU and Illmocity have teamed up to release a track but in each case one member is missing. They took a song by Deepside called “What I Need” and put their own vocals on it. I’m liking this one a lot. The video is whatever but the song itself is pretty decent and the musical chemistry between all the artists is strong. Hopefully we’ll have more IBU x Illmocity joints in the future. You can DL it for free here.

What happens when you have 2/3 of the dopest Chicago R&B group, IBU and 2/3 of Asian super rap group, Illmocity? Tommy C & Mike of IBU comes together w/ City Boy & Illmillion of Illmocity to cover/remix “What I Need” by Deepside. Very popular song a few years back, surprisingly we were the first to cover/remix this song on YouTube. Enjoy the song!

IZ x Lil Crazed x J. Reyez x Thai x Tommy C Release Remix & MV of “Lay It Down” [Free DL]

Last week Lil Crazed, J. Reyez, Tommy C and others were in San Jose, the home town of 454 so naturally they linked up and collabed. This is one of the fruits of their labor, a remix of Lloyd’s “Lay It Down”, featuring IZ, Lil Crazed, J. Reyez, Thai, and Tommy C. Look for a cameo from Erin Paula. The song is a free DL. I think the song is better than the video, which felt more rushed than their usual releases (and it likely was). But regardless, this is the type of activity that needs to happen more among Asian-American( & Canadian) musicians. Mutual respect, support, and collaboration.

IBU x City Boy x J. Reyez x Lil Crazed Remix “Somebody to Love”

We all know Justin Bieber continues to be extremely popular, but love or hate him, the kid releases some pretty catch songs. That’s probably why 2/3′s of IBU teamed up with City Boy, J. Reyez, and Lil Crazed for this remix of the radio friendly pop song “Somebody To Love”. It’s a fun remix that I think most will enjoy. And as expected, you can DL it for free here or here.

IBU Interview w/ SayWhatNews

Inspired By U, the R&B group from Chicago, has a new interview posted up with SayWhatNews. They get to discussing a lot of details you probably didn’t know about the group like how two of them originally knew each other as break dancers and that how one member came up with the name for the group. It’s a decent read for any IBU fan though the formatting makes it a bit hard to follow… could have used some bold here and there, it’s just a block of text.

Anyway, you can catch it in full after the break or head on over to SWN.

Tommy C of IBU Remixes “Airplanes”

OK, I know what you’re thinking… ANOTHER cover/remix of Airplanes? Just like “Billionaire” this is definitely one of the more covered songs out there on Youtube at the moment. But this one stands out. It’s done by Tommy C of the Chicago based R&B group IBU. The subject matter gets very personal as it touches upon the passing of his Father and how his family dealt/coped with the unfortunate event.

Now frankly I have two very polarizing opinions about this song. Purely from a technical standpoint, I wasn’t crazy about it. Not because Tommy doesn’t sing it well, he does, but more so because the arrangement and phrasing of the lyrics were a bit awkward at times and this is actually a common trend I find among much of Tommy’s work. Well sung but roughly written. That being said, as a piece of music and as an example of human expression, it’s a much stronger song. The realism and story behind the song is what makes it relevant and in that sense appreciable. I’m sorry for Tommy’s loss but am encouraged by the sharing of his experience.

Anyway, with all that aside it’s available as a free DL. Props to Tommy for being vulnerable as an artist.

J. Reyez x Tommy C Release the ‘Wedding Dress’ MV

J. Reyez & Tommy C have dropped the MV for their remix of Taeyang’s “Wedding Dress”. They chose some nice shoot locations for this video and I thought they did a pretty good job. In fact even though I wasn’t crazy about the remix when it first dropped, the video made me appreciate it more. The shots, quality, acting, and editing as a whole were fairly strong, I think most of you will enjoy this one.

Both the video and song are available for free DL:

  1. Video
  2. Song
