You’d be wrong if you assumed southern Hip-Hop artist Jackie Chain has slowed down since the release of his After Hours mixtape last month. AHH caught up with Chain for a few minutes at the SXSW festival last week, and he opens up about his new alias of Bruce Lean, the upcoming Bruce Lean Chronicles mixtape, along with the status on his long awaited album, I Ain’t Slept in Weeks.

Listen to Jackie Chain x Freddie Gibbs x Maggie Horn’s “Night is Young”

A new track by Jackie Chain x Nick Catchdubs just premiered, featuring Freddie Gibbs & Maggie Horn. The track is called the “Night is Young” and will be a part of the Chain x Catch LP, After Hours, due soon. It’s a fairly upbeat track and a different sound for Jackie, but I think you’ll find it to be an enjoyable listen. The full LP should be an intriguing listen once it drops.

Jackie Chain has a guest spot on the new joint from group Edubb, ”TOPSDROPBLADESCHOPPNMUZIK”. The title may be a mouthful, but this track brings together several Southern rappers who have been generating a buzz on the indie route. You can find the track on their Legends of the Fall release. Our dude Jackie Chain has the middle verse of the three, in case you wanted to jump straight to his part.

Just outside a month ago, Jackie Chain leaked a new track featuring Southern Hip-Hop staples Bun B & Big K.R.I.T. on a joint called “Parked Outside” – their ode to “old school cars, parked outside”. The visuals dropped today and as expected, feature a bevy of rides, girls and entourages to round out the video. All in all, it’s a smooth listen with non-superlative but crisp and fitting video production values.

If you’re into fly whips, then you’ve come to the right place. On his latest promo single, Alabama repper Jackie Chain (a performer at DJBooth.net’s recent ATL Indie Fest showcase) and Houston heavyweight Bun B give listeners a look at what they’ve got Parked Outside, flowing over the slow-rolling sample work of Booth fave Big K.R.I.T. This joint isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, but fans can, of course, keep it locked for all the latest from the Southern buzzmaker.
Jackie Chain Features on SMKA’s “Certified Sh*t” w/ Rittz, Jarren Benton & Young Scolla
Jackie Chain has a guest spot on producer SMKA’s “Certified Shit” along with Rittz, Jarren Benton & Young Scolla. The ensemble rap song has all the artists trading verses on this cut from the Spring release, The 808 Experiment: Vol 3. Production values on the video are solid and are pretty much your standard fare for a mixtape promotional visual.
Jackie Chain is “Finally Moving” with a New Remix Video
There’s a new promo video circulating around by Alabama’s Jackie Chain. The southern MC drops a freeverse over the music from “Finally Moving”, originally by Derek Vincent Smith aka Pretty Lights. It’s a surprising but great choice of instrumental, and Chain uses his signature flow to give the song a different type of vibe. The visuals are sharp but nothing unexpected – though it works decently enough as a promo watch.

Jackie Chain Features in MV for JP’s “Rubberband Popper”
We’ve got a new MV for you featuring Jackie Chain as the guest performer riding shotgun. The track is called “Rubberband Popper” by JP with Jackie starting things off while JP takes the second half to close it out. Unfortunately this particular brand of Hip-Hop doesn’t usually have a place in my playlist so I can’t say I particularly like the track but that’s not to say it doesn’t have it’s audience. The MV is decently shot but not exactly avante-garde.
