Lil Crazed x Megan Lee x Vudoo Soul x Jason Yang x Jason Chen Cover “Hey Soul Sister” [Free DL]

Hold on, it looks like we’re not done yet with the “Hey Soul Sister” covers. While I’m a little bit tired of this song this clip is an exception. We got Lil Crazed rapping, Megan Lee singing and strumming the guitar, Vudoo & Jason Chen also on vocals and Jason Yang doing his thing on violin over in Mississippi. It’s a fun little live performance and a good acoustic rendition overall. It’s also available as a free DL!

Paul Dateh Continues Violince w/ Episode 3: Parody Me that Melody

Paul Dateh picks up the Violince series by once again enlisting the help of Jason Yang and Scott Yoshimoto. To be honest, as childish as these may come across I am thoroughly enjoying them. It brings me back to the slapstick humor days of Looney Toons. Check out Paul & Jason as they continue their hijinks for this 3rd episode entitled Parody Me that Melody.

Paul Dateh Presents Violince Ep. 2 Featuring Jason Yang

The contemporary Youtube Violin world can’t be too large, which is why in my mind I always wondered what a showdown between Paul Dateh and Jason Yang would look like. Well, in a way I got to find out. Continuing his “Violince” series, Paul brings on Jason Yang for a little slapstick action, all set to the tunes of their stringed instruments. It’s silly and fun but I’d still love to see them thrown down musically.

Note: Scott Yoshimoto is behind the cam on this one.

See behind the scenes here.

Jason Yang x Jake Moulton Cover DJ Shadow’s “Organ Donor”

Every clip this guy releases is gold. Check Jason Yang team up with beatboxer Jake Moulton in this video where they recreate DJ Shadow’s “Organ Donor” in a completely fresh way. There’s always something so intriguing about musicians jamming it out and this proves it. No lyrics are gimmicks, just raw talent and a little help from some sweet distortion pedals.

Clara Chung x Jason Yang Cover B.o.B.’s “Nothin On You” and “Airplanes”

Clara Chung reunites with fellow 2010 Kollaboration contestant Jason Yang for a B.o.B. mashup cover where they mix together his hit song ‘Nothin on You’ ft Bruno Mars and ‘Airplanes’ ft Hayley Williams. Each artists really brings out their musicality for this one, with full full original arrangement and instrumentation. It definitely has a different feel from the pop-rap originals but it’s got it’s own unique charm to it. Stay tune for the random, crazy bloopers at the end!

Jason Yang Covers FF XIII Theme Songs

I’m really feeling Jason Yang’s sheer ear for instrumentation and arrangement. Check out this short video of him laying down tracks David Choi/Sam Ock/Paul Dateh style, and combining them all to recreate some of the theme music from the recently released Final Fantasy XIII. I personally have yet to play the game but I imagine many of you have and should be able to recognize Jason’s cover. The guy is pure raw talent as he learned it all by ear.

Just a short cover of Final Fantasy 13′s Main Theme & Battle Theme. Hope you’re having as much fun with the game as I am!

Credits for the original: Nobuo Uematsu, arranged by Arnold Morrison. Mr. Uematsu, if I ever have the honor of having you see this video, I just want to tell you that you’re amazing!

If you’re looking for sheet music, I’m sorry but I don’t have any for you – I learned it by ear and half of it was improvised anyway.

Jason Yang x DJ Buddy Kill It In a Freestyle Jam Session

Jason Yang’s been gaining some popularity lately, and for good reason because he’s a genius on the violin. Check out this freestyle jam session he posted up with DJ Buddy where they go through a few pop hits and transform them into something on another level all together. It’s not perfect, but that’s what makes improvisation so interesting. Jason adds so much style and flair to songs that we’ve otherwise become bored with. See for yourself.

Showdown: David Choi vs Kollaboration 10 vs Kris Mark x Krystle Tugadi vs Joseph Vincent

It’s been a while since our last Showdown, and after seeing a new cover of the new(ish) Train song ‘Hey Soul Sister’ I thought it’d be fitting to round up some of the covers and do a fun little comparison. This time we got another fairly big group with David Choi, the Kollaboration 10 Competitors (Will Volume, Paul Jisung Kim, Mike Isberto, Clara Chung, Jason Yang, Sam Hart & Alfa Garcia), Kris Mark & Krystle Tugadi, and Joseph Vincent all putting their own spin on the fun little single.

So which version is your favorite?

David Choi with his crazy layers?

The Kollaboration 10 Crew with the massive ensemble?

Kris Mark & Krystle Tugadi’s acoustic R&B twist?

or Joseph Vincent with his simple but breezy interpretation?

Each version brought a pretty unique style to the table so I suppose it’s all a matter of taste but regardless, vote for your favorite(s)!

Joseph Kahn Set to Be Guest Judge at Kollaboration 10

According to one of the competitors, Jason Yang, music video director Joseph Kahn has been announced as a guest judge at March’s Kollaboration 10 event. Joseph has directed videos for everyone from Ricky Martin to Britney Spears to Eminem to BoA. The man is highly in demand and to have him be a part of Kollaboration really exemplifies how legit the competition has become.
