Here’s the latest batch of covers that some of your favorite artists decided to go ahead and do a music video for. It may be hard to keep up, but that’s what these round-ups are for =). Everything from Adele to Drake to Bob Dylan is represented here, along with all that’s in between. No particular order, but don’t miss the ones after the break!

afterschoolspecial x The Dreamlapse Project Debut MV for “Dreamers”
Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.

Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.
Just ‘Cause: The Jubilee Project Presents “Be the Change”
The great folks at the Jubilee Project always tends to put together great videos, focusing on amazing themes and causes. Their latest project puts some of our favorite artists and Youtube stars on the spot, asking them what is important to them and what they would like to see change and happen in this world. There is a ton of talent in this clip, and it encourages you to join the conversation – perhaps in the hope that once we talk about it, we just might be able to take the next step and do something about it.
For the new year, The Jubilee Project took some time to interview some YT friends about the changes that they would like to see in the world. We really believe that life is a gift and ordinary people can do extraordinary things. We hope that this video encourages you to live life to the fullest this year and be the change you want to see in the world.
Twitter us @jubileeproject with your responses #BetheChange – What is one thing you’d like to see changed in the world? What is one organization/cause you feel strongly about? What would you do if you had one last day to live?
Special thanks to BU CSA Takeout and all of the YT stars that took part in this video.

Two Cents: GT’s Top 10 MVs from 2011 (and 10 Honorable Mentions)
2011 was a banner year in the world of Asian-American music. We saw more releases than ever, more artists achieving more mainstream success, and more fans across more ethnic backgrounds recognizing the great music by our artists. But along with more of the good comes more of the bad – with there also being an influx in mediocre music, an increase in hate and bigotry (check Youtube comments) and even more pressure to try and stand out. That’s why I wanted to look back on the past year and choose what I consider to be my top 10 favorite music videos from 2011. Now this doesn’t mean that these are the MVs with the top production values (although this is often the case), but rather it’s a reflection of what I found to be the most well executed, balanced, and entertaining visuals. On the very last page we also have a list of 10 honorable mentions that I thought deserved to be recognized as well.
So without futher ado let’s jump straight into number 10…
10. IAMMEDIC – “Spaceship” (article)
Electronica-Pop group IAMMEDIC took the concept of their song “Spaceship” to the max by injecting a silly Star Trek inspired motif and alien abduction. The video is fun, looks great, and represents the high energy of the audio perfectly. Deep? Not so much, but fun and well executed? Very much so.
Directors/Cinematographers/ Dan Fisher and Ed Park
Produced by Joe Park and IAMMEDIC
Edited by Steve Arcenio
Visual Effects – Ed Park and Derrick Lee
3D Model by Daniel Harris
“Spaceship” Written and Produced by IAMMEDIC
Mixed by Enik Lin
Jennifer Chung Releases the MV for “Your Year” & “Happiness”
In an unexpected but welcome change of direction, Jennifer Chung has jumped into the world of dance-pop with her latest MV reveal, a visual set to the tune of “Your Year” and “Happiness” – two tracks from her upcoming mixtape. The former is available as a free DL for the price of your e-mail address. Check out the video below to get a glimpse of JC as you’ve never seen her before.
The Holiday Cover Round-Up Part 6
Here we go, Christmas covers round 6! There are a ton this time but there are also a lot of repeat appearances along with similar song selection. Enjoy your pick of the litter (don’t miss all the ones after the break) and hope everyone is staying warm. Only 3 more days til Christmas =).
New Heights x Cathy Nguyen Cover “Silent Night”
Cilla & Howard Chan Cover “Baby It’s Cold Outside”
Kina Grannis x Gabe Bondoc Cover “Let it Snow”
Snapshot: Sad Face Jennifer “Chun”
Last winter, Jennifer Chung was part of an event in the North East where the promotions/marketing team made encountered a small snafu – they ever so slightly misspelled Jen’s name. Leaving off the last letter, Jennifer Chung was transformed into Jennifer Chun. An honest mistake really, but one that was still caught by Ms Chung herself. Here she is humorously posing next to one of the event posters. Hey, nobody’s perfect!
The Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 10/26/11
Mid-week hump… why don’t we have another Youtube round-up! Today’s theme is “rap remix”, so all of the following are beats that our rappers decided to flip and use for their own purposes. Nothing wrong with that, just as long as you recognize it’s not a completely organic offering. The first two in our collection are placed as such because they have, by far, the best production values among the group. Thai’s in particular, is up to 454′s usual impeccable visual standards. But don’t sleep on Miss TLu of On Fire, the girl shows promise. The rest of the gang include a collab by Toestah & Jen Chung, LA’s 3Strykes representing too, Lil Crazed with a little spin-off of MGK, DUKE keeping things fun with a LMFAO joint and Verse rounding out the pack. Lot’s of Jay-Z x Kanye beats in here, I guess they are a crowd favorite.
Thai Remixes “Dreams Money Can Buy” by Drake
Miss TLu of OnFire Ent Remixes “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z & Kanye West
Jennifer Chung Releases the MV for “One Day”
“One Day” is the latest single off of Jennifer Chung‘s recently released 4 Years & Counting and has been given the proper MV treatment as a result. Check out Ms Chung as the red-headed protagonist of the visual, set to what is arguably one of my favorite songs off the album. A strong song coupled with sharp visuals and good pacing make for an enjoyable watch.
