Must Read – Great NY Times Online Article on Legaci and Other AA Musicians

19 Jun

Check out this great article on the NY Times website highlighting and focusing on Asian American musicians, most prominently Legaci as they continue their back up duties for Justin Bieber. They mention a lot of great talent, including Charice, David Choi, AJ Rafael, Kina Grannis, Gabe Bondoc, Cathy Nguyen, JR Aquino, Dawen, Jennifer Chung, and more. Just in case the link dies at some point, I’ve copied and pasted it after the break. It’s awesome to see the growing exposure for these immensely talented people.

Jennifer Chung Featured on the UC Irvine Website

28 Apr

Y’all know who Jennifer Chung is by now. And I imagine a lot of you know she’s a college student at UC Irvine. Well the school certainly took notice of one of their more famous students and has featured her on their school website, profiling her and her music career in the context of holding down her educational life. I got so much respect for the girl, she did so much more with her college years than I ever did!

Jennifer Chung (Finally) Officially Releases “I Don’t Know, Let’s Sing”

27 Apr

Those of you who are long time Jennifer Chung fans may know her song “I Don’t Know, Let’s Sing”, of which a music video was even made for but the single itself was never officially released. Well two years later it’s here for the price of a McDouble from her bandcamp page. I really liked this song and was dissapointed when I found it wasn’t on her EP, ‘Common Simple Beautiful‘. Make sure to grab this track now that you finally can (officially, anyway)!

26 Apr

That’s right folks. MTV Iggy has just put out a “subjective” list of what they consider to be the 25 Best New Bands in the World and guess who has mad the cut? Hip-Hop artists Far East Movement, singer Jennifer Chung, and chillwave artist Toro Y Moi are all on the list. But wait! There’s more! They are giving the public the opportunity to vote for the favorite, and the band with the most votes will get a ton of promotions on Iggy. So head on over there and make sure to vote for your favorite! And congrats to FM, Jen Chung, and Toro for the honors!

For every amazing new band there’s at least a drillion terrible ones. So to save you time, here is our totally subjective list of the 25 Best New Bands In The World. From Chinese no wave to New Zealand dance-punk to home-growned Brooklyn indie rock we’ve got it all. Take a look at what we came up with, and vote for your favorite below — the band with the most votes will get an MTV Iggy weekend homepage takeover and a studio taping next time they roll through New York City!

Jennifer Chung Covers ‘Pyramid’ By Charice

23 Apr

Here at a-Tunes we have an unofficial policy where we don’t post up every single cover video a singer posts up on Youtube simply because some are better than others and there are often too many to keep track of. Exceptions include multi-artists collabs, “can’t miss” performances, and when Asian artists pay homage to other Asian artists. Luckily this video fits almost all that criteria as JC once again enlists the help of Johnny on the guitar, she sings Charice’s hit song w/ IYAZ – “Pyramid“, and she kills it. Great job!

Jennifer Chung Covers SNSD’s “Run Devil Run”

21 Apr

All you avid KPOP fans are surely familiar with the hit song ‘Run Devil Run’ by SNSD. The more devoted fans are also likely aware that this song was originally written for and recorded by Ke$ha before being scrapped and ended up being purchased by SM Entertainment (SNSD’s company) but that’s not so relevant.

Jennifer Chung decided to switch things up a bit and cover the song, Korean language and all. It’s a nice acoustic switch up to the otherwise heavily produced original. I enjoyed this one.

On a side note, JC also auditioned for Glee, so check out her clips and give her a gold star if you think she deserves a shot at being McKinley High’s latest transfer student!
