Musicians Gather for Benefit Event: Harmony for the Heart

Many asian american musicians and entertaines are joinging forces to battle heart disease by hosting a benefit concert called Harmony for the Heart in support of the American Heart Association. The event, set for January 13th, 2010, will feature AJ Rafael, Cathy Nguyen, Jennifer Chung, Johnny Yang, Joseph Vincent, Kris Mark, Lydia Paek, Paul Dateh, Ramiele Malubay, Request Line (Scott Yoshimoto, Casey Nishizu, Emily Yoshihara), Timothy DeLaGhetto AKA Traphik, MOVeMEDIA Productions and DJ Ackus. If that line up alone doesn’t make you want to attend… then you’re really at the wrong blog =P. You can find more information from Scott Yoshimoto below. Support the movement.

Kris Mark, Joseph Vincent, and myself, Scott Yoshimoto, are hosting our very first concert, HARMONY FOR THE HEART, in order to help the American Heart Association and their commitment to fighting heart disease and stroke, as well as their efforts to raise awareness of these diseases. We need YOUR support, through any form of donation–be it 5 cents or 50 dollars–in order for us to facilitate the concert and maximize the proceeds to the American Heart Association.

All sponsors will be acknowledged at the concert and in MOVeMEDIA’s official promo video for the concert!

all excess sponsorship money (if any) after all expenses will also go to the American Heart Association on top of the proceeds acquired from the actual concert! =)

More details after the jump!

Jennifer Chung x MTV Iggy x Subway !?

Yep, you read that right. Check out this Subway sponsored feature with MTV Iggy & Jennifer Chung!

What a huge feature interview and great exposure for the budding young Youtube darling! Check out the interview where she talks about how it all started, how she juggles college life and music and of course a few words on Subway haha. After the interview check out a great acoustic performance of ‘Very Last Time’. She totally rocked it.

All in all, I gotta say JC oozes charm. She’s so personable and down to earth and I think that’s helped her connect with her fanbase that much more. Shameless Subway pitch aside, I really enjoyed these clips. Team Jennifer Chung FTW!

Jennifer Chung x Seriously Post Live Performance @ The Roxy

Catch Jennifer Chung’s recent performance at the famous Roxy as she sings an original song (‘The Way You Do’) accompanied by none other then the band Seriously. The audio quality isn’t the greatest in this clip but its great to hear her in a live setting and away from a webcam for once. That girl’s got some pipes. I hope to hear both her and seriously live in the near future too.

Lyrics after the jump.

Two Cents: Apathy Killed the Asian American Star

So I decided to give vlogging a try and I realized I talk WAY too much. I apologize for being so verbose, I’ll work on it for the future =).

Anyways, the point of the video is this: Support the music you love, because we, the consumer can shape the market for Asian American musicians.

Here are the articles I referred to:

Hope I didn’t bore you to death! Thoughts? Comments?

Jennifer Chung Interview w/ AAM

AAM has a new interview with youtube star singer Jennifer Chung. It’s pretty brief and I’ve copy and pasted it below after the jump in case you don’t feel like heading over to AAM. It still boggles me how big she’s gotten in just a couple years through youtube. Props to Ms Chung!

WTF: a-Tunes Mix Vol1 – Summer Break

This marks a special edition of Weekly Thursday Freebies as  we are presenting what is hoped to be the first of many releases to come in a series uncreatively titled ‘a-Tunes Mix’. In short, the a-Tunes Mixes are going to be digital mixtapes comprised of music released by Asian/Asian-American artists here in the states. These mixes should fit on a standard 80 min CD when burned and/or play on the media player of your choice.

The main purpose of this project is to promote artists you wouldn’t normally hear in mainstream media and increase their exposure because they truly do deserve it. In no way are these mixes meant to undermine or serve as a substitution to actually supporting these artists by buying their music. In fact, it is meant to encourage all of you to find new artists you really enjoy and show your support. That being said,  if there any artist(s) or members of their staff who are reading this and object to their inclusion, then please let me know (giftedthought at gmail) and I will respectfully leave you out of future releases.

Now, with all the information and disclaimers out of the way… a-Tunes is proud to present the ‘a-Tunes Mix Vol. 1: Summer Break’. I know the summer season is rapidly winding down, and many of you will find yourselfs back at your fine educational institutions soon (if you haven’t already). However, that doesn’t mean we still can’t appreciate some fun, catchy music. All the songs included on this mix were released in roughly the past yr (given a couple exceptions), and are light and infectious enough to simpley relax and enjoy like it’s summer break all over again.
