Music Video Tuesday! Ok, that’s not a real thing, but that’s our theme of today’s round-up of Youtube video covers. Admittedly, the last video isn’t exactly a music video so much as it is a gigantic mash-up of footage. But when you’re dealing with 50 different artists and trying to work all those clips together, we figure it’s just as much work as any other MV production, so we’ve gone ahead and included it too. Enjoy!
Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.
Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.
We haven’t posted about an event in a while but we thought we’d rectify the matter by sharing an awesome event happening this weekend in San Diego. The Luminance series at UCSD continues, this time featuring some extremely talented folks including Megan Lee, Kevin Lien, Lindsey Yung, Connie Lim, and headlined by Jenny Suk. The Luminance concert series aims to provide a spotlight on rising Asian-Am stars, providing them a platform to share their talents on the live stage. Don’t miss out!
A total of 55 Youtubers have contributed to this project single called “We Pray for You”, a tribute song for the victims of terrible natural disasters in Japan and the US. The concept is similar to the Haiti tribute from last year. A number of a-Tuners were in the mix including Chris Cedeña, Stacy Dudero, AJ Rafael, Kevin Lien, David Choi, Jason Chen, and Jessica Sanchez. The track is an awesome gesture and full of great intention although to be quite frank, while it’s beautifully sung it felt so heavy handed and overly-syrupy. Needless to say these singers are trying to do something great with their talents, and I support that. The song is available on iTunes & Amazon.
Proceeds go to the Japan redcross to benefit disaster victims of Japan’s Earthquake/Tsunami and to the American redcross for the victims of recent tornadoes in the southern United States.
When is the last time you saw Scott Yoshimoto, Casey Nishizu, Dan aka Dan, Paul Dateh, Cathy Nguyen, Kevin Lien, CP, Alexa Yoshimoto, Jasmine Rafael, and other musicians and entertainers all in one production? The answer is likely never. MoveMedia productions has an online musical series called “My Own Show”, and the second episode just dropped featuring everyone mentioned above. It was a lot of fun to watch so check it out below! (If you want to start from the beg, watch Episode 1 here.)
You should check out this dope cover/remix of Lupe Fiasco’s “Fighters” featuring afterschoolspecial’s Dan aka Dan and singer Kevin Lien. I’m realy digging this acoustic rendition, it totally flips the vibe of the track. Dan & Kevin make a pretty decent team, I hope they link up for some official original studio material too.
[update] You can also check out their rework of afterschoolspecial’s “Not One for Words”[/update]
