The Girls & Guitars Youtube Covers Round-Up – 4/18/12

Tonight, we decided to go with a more feminine direction, and rounded up an all-female ensemble of videos that features the classic 6-string. Everything from a song from AMC’s Mad Men to Bon Iver to Bob Dylan to Britney Spears is represented by these lovely ladies. I’ve heard some say they find it very attractive when a girl can play the guitar, if that be you, then you’ll surely enjoy this bunch.

Kina Grannis Supports the Fight Against Cancer with “Make It Go”

Kina Grannis has released a performance version of a personal track called “Make It Go” as a single purchase with 100% of the money going towards the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The song touches upon her experience with her Mother and their fight against disease. It’s a powerful and meanigful song and you can support this Run Team Kina campaign by picking the single from her online store.

This song is dedicated to my mother who was diagnosed with a blood cancer 11 years ago. She is amazing and strong and doing well and one of the most amazing humans you could ever meet.

p.s. I hate cancer.

Showdown: Kina Grannis vs Gerald Ko vs Megan Lee vs Jason Chen

It’s been going on a month since our last Showdown feature, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

The time seems ripe for a new one. For this post, we have a four way battle where all the competitors are singing “Safe and Sound” – a slow, heartfelt country tune by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars. Kina Grannis, Gerald Ko, Megan Lee, and Jason Chen all had the good fortune of covering this song, so why not compare them all head to head? They are all Showdown veterans, and have quite possibly all faced off against one another in one shape or form. To add a new twist in the plot, Gerald Ko is actually in Jason Chen’s video too, supplying the music via the six-string. Whodathunkit?

Kina Grannis

Gerald Ko

Megan Lee

Jason Chen

Alright, let’s be honest. These votes don’t technically qualify whose cover is better than the others. There are no official metrics or algorithms in use here. If one artist’s rendition appealed more to you than the others… go ahead and vote for it. After all, the artist with the most wins walks away with an awesome prize… bragging rights. Very, very modest bragging rights. Maybe?

Vote, baby, vote!

The Jam Session Youtube Covers Round-Up 2/27/12

When you put a bunch of talented artists in a room with instruments and a camera, the inevitable Youtube jam session is going to occur. That’s the binding theme among today’s round-up, with all the covers being mostly raw footage of artists and their friends (and sometimes family) singing their hearts out to their favorite songs of the moment. How’s an even dozen sound to you? It’s a lot? Well you better get started!

See the Performance of “In Your Arms” by Kina Grannis on Jimmy Kimmel Live

For those that missed it last night, Kina Grannis had the opportunity to share her music on the national TV stage via a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The budding singer/songwriter showcased her current hit single, “In Your Arms“, and though visibly nervous, she found her groove and gave a great performance. I was liking the simplicity of this arrangement with just a guitar and cello for backing. Hopefully this will only open up more doors for Ms Grannis!

Snapshot: Kina Grannis in This Week’s Issue of In Touch Weekly

Kina Grannis x In Touch Weekly

Well ain’t that something? Kina Grannis‘ popularity never ceases to grow and she’s managed to find herself the subject of a two page feature spread in In Touch Weekly. Definitely well deserved and it’s awesome to see how stoked she still is as the publicity on her continues to explode. I can’t quite make out the text from the slightly blurry cam shot that she posted to Twitter, but it seems pretty evident that the article is about her recent viral music video, “In Your Arms“. Too cool.

Say Cheese!
