See the Performance of “In Your Arms” by Kina Grannis on Jimmy Kimmel Live

For those that missed it last night, Kina Grannis had the opportunity to share her music on the national TV stage via a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The budding singer/songwriter showcased her current hit single, “In Your Arms“, and though visibly nervous, she found her groove and gave a great performance. I was liking the simplicity of this arrangement with just a guitar and cello for backing. Hopefully this will only open up more doors for Ms Grannis!

Two Cents: GT’s Top 10 Performance Clips from 2011

OK. One week down in 2012, and 51 one left to go! We’re continuing our 2011 countdown series with a recap of my top 10 favorite performance clips from last year. The criteria for this list came down to a mixture factors, including the actual performance, the crowd response, production values, and sheer overall entertainment. The only other restriction was that the clip had to be released in the calendar year of 2011, even if the performance is from earlier. Lastly, click through till the end for a bonus pick that didn’t quite fit in my top 10 but shouldn’t be ignored.

Now, starting with my number 10 pick, we have…

10. April Chase – “All You Need to Say” (article)

Ever since first discovering April Chase a couple years ago, they quickly became one of my favorite Pop/Rock bands. The group encompasses radio friendly hooks with a great rock foundation, wrapped up with Carina Valdes’ sweet but gutsy vocals. The only thing the above clip that is missing, was an audience to appreciate the unplugged rendition of “All You Need to Say” from their EP, Still Breathing. It’s always a blessing when a rock group still sounds just as fun and engaging without the benefit of studio polish.

Two Cents: GT’s Top 10 MVs from 2011 (and 10 Honorable Mentions)

2011 was a banner year in the world of Asian-American music. We saw more releases than ever, more artists achieving more mainstream success, and more fans across more ethnic backgrounds recognizing the great music by our artists. But along with more of the good comes more of the bad – with there also being an influx in mediocre music, an increase in hate and bigotry (check Youtube comments) and even more pressure to try and stand out. That’s why I wanted to look back on the past year and choose what I consider to be my top 10 favorite music videos from 2011. Now this doesn’t mean that these are the MVs with the top production values (although this is often the case), but rather it’s a reflection of what I found to be the most well executed, balanced, and entertaining visuals. On the very last page we also have a list of 10 honorable mentions that I thought deserved to be recognized as well.

So without futher ado let’s jump straight into number 10…

10. IAMMEDIC – “Spaceship” (article)

Electronica-Pop group IAMMEDIC took the concept of their song “Spaceship” to the max by injecting a silly Star Trek inspired motif and alien abduction. The video is fun, looks great, and represents the high energy of the audio perfectly. Deep? Not so much, but fun and well executed? Very much so.

Directors/Cinematographers/ Dan Fisher and Ed Park
Produced by Joe Park and IAMMEDIC
Edited by Steve Arcenio
Visual Effects – Ed Park and Derrick Lee
3D Model by Daniel Harris
“Spaceship” Written and Produced by IAMMEDIC

Snapshot: Kina Grannis in This Week’s Issue of In Touch Weekly

Kina Grannis x In Touch Weekly

Well ain’t that something? Kina Grannis‘ popularity never ceases to grow and she’s managed to find herself the subject of a two page feature spread in In Touch Weekly. Definitely well deserved and it’s awesome to see how stoked she still is as the publicity on her continues to explode. I can’t quite make out the text from the slightly blurry cam shot that she posted to Twitter, but it seems pretty evident that the article is about her recent viral music video, “In Your Arms“. Too cool.

Say Cheese!

Kina Grannis Performs Live on the Ellen Show

We told you it was gonna happen, and now you can see for yourself. Youtube darling, Kina Grannis had the awesome chance to be invited to the Ellen Show where she talked a bit about her music video for “In Your Arms” and proceeds to perform the track live on the show. And you know what? She deserves every second of the spotlight. Don’t miss out on the clip from today’s show below. Congrats to Kina and her team!

Kina Grannis to Perform “In Your Arms” on the Ellen Show

She isn’t the first of our stars to earn the opportunity to perform on the Ellen Show, but she’s certainly one of our favorites. As you can see from her tweets, Kina Grannis is stoked about learning she’s been booked on Monday’s taping of Ellen DeGeneres’s show, where she’ll be performing her latest single “In Your Arms“. I’m not exactly a daytime TV talkshow type of viewer, nor do I own a TiVo, so I may have to break out the trusty VCR and tape this one. Or Hulu… yea, we’ll do Hulu. Don’t miss out! We’ll do our best to get a clip up afterwards too.

Kina Grannis Releases MV for “In Your Arms”; Featured on MTV’s The Real World

By now, most of you should know I’m a sucker for creatively executed and produced music videos. You should also know I’m partial to the charm of Kina Grannis. That’s why the MV for her latest single off her Stairwells album, “In Your Arms”, is appealing to me on pretty much every level. It’s cute, colorful, and imaginative, and if you check out the BTS featurette after the break, you’ll see it was a pain staking process to bring you the visual you see here today.  A huge props to Kina and her team, the video project turned out incredible! Even after 18 months, the promotions for the album are still providing us with gems like these.

In other big and related news, the song was also featured on last night’s episode of the long running reality series, The Real World, on MTV.
