The Covers by Duets Youtube Round-Up 5/17/12

Two can play at that game? What game? I dunno, I just wanted to introduce the concept of two. Deuce. Double. 1+1. Snake Eyes. Duets. Because that’s what we’ve rounded-up for you today. This is all about about two musical artists covering songs both new and old and giving you two subjects to see and hear. This would have been more appropriate for a “Twos”day…. OK, sorry about that. Enjoy!

The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12

We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!

Ed-Two Remixes “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar x Dr. Dre

Thai Remixes “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller

Tyga Releases the “Faded” MV with Lil Wayne

Part Vietnamese-American rapper, Tyga, has started to promote his latest single “Faded” off the Careless World album that dropped in February. The Lil Wayne assisted track has been given the official music video overhaul. Like most of the material from the Young Money camp, it’s OK to listen to but this isn’t exactly timeless music. The below clip is a video rip we found. Once the official version goes up, we’ll make the swap.

The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 3/6/12

If there’s one thing rappers love to do, it’s dropping remixes. Now, everyone is taking the extra step to differentiate themselves by putting together full music videos for their remixes, but the easy way out is to throw some cover art or an image over the track and post it to Youtube. That’s exactly what’s been done here. All the songs are pre-recorded, studio-esque quality songs, most available as a free DL, but there is hardly a visual to match – effectively turning Youtube into a new school jukebox. At least Jin took it a half step further and threw some lyrics up on one of his videos! (To be fair, I prefer this over the webcam rap videos…)

The In-Studio Covers Round-Up – 2/6/12

I call this the In-Studio Covers Round-Up because I had one criteria as the unifying theme. If I saw a mic in the video, I classified it as in-studio and threw it in this batch. Simple enough right? Nevermind if it was actually used for the recording, or if it’s just a prop, or whatever else. A few new faces sprinkled with some Youtube cover artist veterans. 10 videos in total. Have fun!

Showdown: On Fire Ent x Rocky Sandoval vs Hopie Spitshard vs Lyricks x Decipher x The Yellow Boyz x JL x Excel Cruz x Koreone x Manifest x Smokes

Welcome to another episode of Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

With Drake being undoubtedly one of the hottest acts in the business right now, it’s no wonder why his music has been covered and remixed by artists thousands of times over. For this installment of our Showdown series we’ve decided to highlight a few recent remixes of Drake’s song “The Motto” featuring Lil Wayne. This one is a three way battle with On Fire & Rocky in one corner, Hopie repping the fairer sex on her own in another, and a huge mega roster of artists in the last corner – comprised of Lyricks, De, The Yellow Boyz, Excel Cruz, Koreone, Manifest & Smokes. So by all means, go ahead and take a listen to the three renditions and vote for your favorite below!

On Fire Ent x Rocky Sandoval

Hopie Spitshard

Lyricks, Decipher, Al P, JL, Excel Cruz, Koreone, PassDa, Joel, Manifest, Smokes

So who do you think did the track the must justice? The one two punch of On Fire & Rocky? Hopie rocking the mic via webcam? Or the gigantic 10-man lineup from this years’ Asian Hip-Hop Summit tour? Cast your vote now! Why? … Bragging rights? We really don’t have an answer except to say it’s fun!

The XY Chromosome Youtube Cover Round-Up – 11/9/11

It’s official, this round-up is a sausage fest. It’s a collection of male singers that decided to throw some covers up on Youtube. Everything from R&B to Dance/Pop to Reggae is represented here, so you’re bound to find something  you like. But if you’re looking for something more from the fairer sex, then don’t fret because we’ll have an all female round-up at the end of the week. Enjoy!

Snapshot: The Far East Movement Tour Bus

FM Tour Bus

This past summer, the Far East Movement had the incredible opportunity to go on a nation wide tour with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Keri Hilson & more – and part of the perks to joining such a high profile tour is getting your own mobile accommodations aka… a tour bus. Take one look at that vehicle and you know FM has undeniably “made it”. If having your faces plastered across a 40 foot bus for the purpose of touring with the best selling Hip-Hop acts of 2011 doesn’t scream commercial success… then I don’t know what does.

This photo was taken from their official Facebook albums of the tour. You can view more great pictures here and here.
