Lyricks Features for G2 on “It’s My Thing”
Lyricks decided to take things in a multi-lingual route with this new collab with Korean-speaking G2. They each take two verses a piece with G taking providing the bi-lingual raps on a track called “It’s My Thing” – with a music video to boot. The video is a mildly entertaining watch, though the song itself is the stronger of the two mediums.
The Youtube Collab Round-Up – 1/31/12
We figured why not end the last day of the first month with a new batch of Youtube covers. This round-up is another sampling platter of collaborations among different artists. There’s a lot of acoustic music in this particular grouping, with one particular exception. As always, the production qualities vary wildly but there should be something for everyone to enjoy.
Lyricks x Kulture Remix “Blackout” by Breathe Carolina
Clara C x Joseph Vincent Cover “Shy That Way” by Tristan Prettyman x Jason Mraz
David So x Travis Graham (New Heights) Cover “Green Light” by John Legend
Listen to the Leak of “Truthful Lie” by Lyricks x Vincent Lacsamana

Given Lyricks penchant for working with local artists to the Northern Virginia area, it’s a wonder why we haven’t heard a collabo from him and Vincent Lacsamana earlier. But luckily, that omission has been rectified with the streaming leak of “Truthful Lie”. It’s kind of refreshing to hear Ly take a step from the boom bap and do a quick cross over to the smooth raps. Not sure how long this one will be up, so be sure to check this out while it’s still available for stream. If the song sounds familiar, it’s because it’s been reworked from the original version we heard almost a year ago.
YBZ x Lyricks Drop the “Shawty” MV
In promotion of tomorrow’s mixtape release for Yellow Brick Road by the Yellow Boyz, the group has unveiled a new MV for the song “Shawty”. The southern rap group enlisted the help of Lyricks for a feature, and you can see much of the video was shot in SuperNoVa studios in Virginia. I found myself feeling a bit indifferent by the end of this one, let’s see if the rest of the tape will change that.
Lyricks Shares “Everyday” and “Walk With Me”

Lyricks continues to stay busy in 2012 with the release of two more tracks, one produced by UGP, the other by CTRU. The first is called “Everday” and features Ly experimenting with an energetic, Rozay-type flow before switching it up. The second, “Walk With Me”, has a more conventional classic Hip-Hop type of sound. You can peep em via Soundclick and if you wanna read along, you’ll find the lyrics after the break.
Listen to Lyricks’ “Say It Slower”

This track may sound like a Drizzy R&B joint, but it’s actually far from it. Lyricks takes the opportunity over a few minutes to air out his grievances and talk about his struggles and perspective as a Hip-Hop musician. Not every song begs you to listen close, but this is one of them tracks.
So Imma make the dough, but I won’t sell the soul,
And I’ll change the flow, but I won’t change the show,
And this maybe the realest song that you ever heard.
I spit it extra slow, so u could understand my every word.
It’s hard not to pay attention. So if you’re looking to pick the brain of Lee, Ricks – then this is a great place to start. Lyrics are after the break.
Lyricks Shares an Alternative Version of Sam Ock’s “Simple Steps”
Ly to the ricks has uploaded a little unreleased gem to Youtube. Sam Ock released an album earlier this year called Simple Steps which included the title track of the same name. It seems that Lyricks was initially supposed to be a part of the song, but wasn’t able to meet the deadline and was left off the final version as a result. For those thinking he would have been a strong fit for the jazzy double-time song, you’d be right. Listen to what could have been below.

The Rap Remix Round-Up – 11/30/11
Nah, this ain’t a Youtube round-up, as a number of the tracks you’re about to hear were delivered through various mediums but not limited to the Tube. So instead we have just a collection of tracks that have dropped in the recent – all Rap/Hip-Hop remixes of songs both old and new across various genres. So here they are in no particular order:
- Misfit – “So Crooked” (a remix of “Bonfire” by Childish Gambino)
Showdown: On Fire Ent x Rocky Sandoval vs Hopie Spitshard vs Lyricks x Decipher x The Yellow Boyz x JL x Excel Cruz x Koreone x Manifest x Smokes
Welcome to another episode of Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.
With Drake being undoubtedly one of the hottest acts in the business right now, it’s no wonder why his music has been covered and remixed by artists thousands of times over. For this installment of our Showdown series we’ve decided to highlight a few recent remixes of Drake’s song “The Motto” featuring Lil Wayne. This one is a three way battle with On Fire & Rocky in one corner, Hopie repping the fairer sex on her own in another, and a huge mega roster of artists in the last corner – comprised of Lyricks, De, The Yellow Boyz, Excel Cruz, Koreone, Manifest & Smokes. So by all means, go ahead and take a listen to the three renditions and vote for your favorite below!
Lyricks, Decipher, Al P, JL, Excel Cruz, Koreone, PassDa, Joel, Manifest, Smokes
So who do you think did the track the must justice? The one two punch of On Fire & Rocky? Hopie rocking the mic via webcam? Or the gigantic 10-man lineup from this years’ Asian Hip-Hop Summit tour? Cast your vote now! Why? … Bragging rights? We really don’t have an answer except to say it’s fun!
Snapshot: Lyricks x Dumbfoundead x Esna Yoon x Manifest x Zo x Lyraflip x JL
I’m honestly not sure when or where this picture was taken, or even how we found it. But my best guess is that this is on set of the music video for “Lava” by JL, L. Scatterbrain, Lyraflip, Lyricks, Manifest, Dumbfoundead and DJ Zo – meaning the photo has to be at least a year and a half to two years old. How’s that for a Snapshot in time? Esna makes an appearance though L.S. is curiously missing… perhaps he’s taking the picture?
Odd to think how much has happened since this photo was taken. Mani & JL have been to Korea and back again (welcome home fellas!), Lyricks has remained a staple in the DMV/East Coast Hip-Hop scene, Dumb & Zo have been conquering the world… and I dunno where Flip & Scatter are right now. They’ve been kind of quiet, fell off our radar a bit. Can’t wait to see what will become of everyone in another two years!
