David Choi x Wong Fu x Joseph Vincent x Jason Chen x Jason Yang x Janice Yan x Jennifer Chung x Clara Chung x Magnetic North x Taiyo Na x afterschooolspecial To Perform at BU March 4th

Holy clam chowder. OK New England, hold on to your hats cause you have quite the mega show coming your way in just under a month’s time. I don’t know what kind of budget Boston University’s CSA has but they have dug deep to bring you a stellar line up of artists for their Goodwill Benefit Concert on March 4th. How stellar? Well just look at that poster! You got David Choi, Wong Fu, Joseph Vincent, Jason Chen, Jason Yang, Janice Yan, Jennifer Chung, Clara Chung, Magnetic North, Taiyo Na, and Afterschoolspecial. It’s just a shame they spelled Jennifer’s last name wrong. Anyway, it must be good to be a college student now, cause I definitely didn’t have these types of shows when I was in school. You can find out more information about the event on the official facebook page and buy tickets here.

Boston University Chinese Student Association and Goodwill will be holding a benefit concert called Takeout. The theme of the concert is to takeout the bindings that restrict today?s adolescents from reaching their maximum potential.

afterschoolspecial x Taiyo Na x Magnetic North x MOVeMedia Release the “Be” MV

For the second single off their It’s All In Your Head debut full length album, afterschoolspecial has chosen to push the song “Be”, complete with a proper music video treatment. The track features New York artists Taiyo Na and Derek of Magnetic North and makes extensive use of a comic book motif. The single itself is sick. It’s a great collection of artists and a great rap/rock song overall. I thought the video itself was pretty decent, thanks in part to Scott Yoshimoto and his MOVeMEDIA group, but it wasn’t quite as polished as their video with Wong Fu.

afterschoolspecial Drops Debut Full Length Album & MV for “Name” with WongFu

Finally! After hearing about the album and MV for “Name” for months now, both have finally dropped. The MV is a collaboration with WongFu and it’s only more proof that their portfolio continues to improve. This MV has a great concept, matches the style of song, and effectively incorporates everyone involved with the project including all the band members and a cameo from Paul Dateh himself. It was a nice touch to see the band rocking out on office supply instruments. The heroine of the video is pretty cute too ;-) . Props both to the band and Wong Fu for a great release.

“Name” can be found on their full length debut, It’s All in Your Head which also dropped today – so pick up a copy! It’s got 11 tracks, is 11 bucks and has free shipping at the moment! The album also features Derek Kan of Magnetic North, Taiyo Na, Pigeon John, dumbfoundead, JK Films, Traphik, IZ, and verseatile. Support the band, support these artists.

Magnetic North x Taiyo Na x Conchita Campos Release the MV for “Summertime”

It’s been a year since Magnetic North, Taiyo Na, and Conchita Campos dropped their seasonal single “Summertime“. They shot the MV shortly soon after but it is only now finally being released. The visuals match the song perfectly and really speak to a perfect Summer day in New York. I’m really digging this one as it makes the year old song fresh all over again. The song is off their Home:word album

Taiyo Na Interviews w/ ChannelAPA

The NY based musician and open mic staple Taiyo Na has got a new interview out with ChannelAPA. He shares how he’s been involved in music and the Asian American community since a young age, continuing the trend through adulthood by hosting open mics and hosting a local long running public channel TV show. He also talks about his single “Lovely to Me (Immigrant Mother)” and working with Magnetic North and how they clicked from the beginning, resulting in the upcoming album Home:word.

Magnetic North x Taiyo Na Release Album Sampler by DJ Boo

We mentioned Magnetic North and Taiyo Na had teamed up for a new album entitled Home:Word set to drop on June 8th but to whet our appetites for new music they’ve also decided to release a sampler to give us a taste of what’s to come. It was mixed by DJ Boo and I can’t lie, it all sounds pretty strong so far. I didn’t know what to expect but now that I do I can’t wait for this to be released!

If ya’ll are anything like us you have a hard time choosing appetizers at a restaurant…. there’s just so much fatty deliciousness to partake in… how to pick just one?  Well….thank whatever genius invented the SAMPLER. Why choose when you can have a little bit of everything?  That’s what chef DJ Boo did for us w/ the album…cutting and slicing thick morsels of songs to serve to you on a hot platter.

Magnetic North Interview w/ ChannelAPA

The Bay Area turn NYC hip-hop duo Magnetic North also participated in ChannelAPA’s spring interview tour. They cover a lot of good ground including how the two initially met, how their music started to take off, their upcoming album and music video releases, working extensively Taiyo Na along with a few other folks like Vudoo, Sam Kang and more. This next album will be their first major release since 2006 so it’s going to be a welcome return.
