Marie Digby Releases the Trailer for Breathing Underwater Mini-Series

Marie Digby has been hinting about this project for some time but has finally broken the silence. She has a new web mini-series coming out entitled Breathing Underwater (same name as her most recent album) that will air on ABC Music Lounge starting today, Thursday July 1st. This is an awesome accomplishment and I look forward to seeing how it will play out.

This movie is loosely based on what I went through during the making of my album and why I was inspired to write the songs which are on Breathing Underwater. I hope you enjoy the sneak peek ;)

Marie Digby Shares New Song – “L.A. (My Home)”

Now this is the Marie Digby that made me a fan in the first place. When she keeps it simple with the instrumentation and just sings a personal song, she truly shines. Here is a new original called “L.A. (My Home)” and as you can guess it’s an ode to the city of angels where she was raised since a toddler. I truly enjoyed this one. It is heartfelt and beautifully arranged. I wish there were more cuts like this on her last album.

As some of you already know, I was raised in Los Angeles..I’ve been here since I was 2 years old and I’ve met so many people who come in and out of the city from different places, chasing after their dreams. In my late teens and early 20′s I met a lot of aspiring musicians (some of whom became my best friends) but I also had to quickly learn that I’d always end up saying goodbye to them in a matter of years. I have watched some careers sky rocket and many dreams shattered as well.. it’s heartbreaking. But while the others come and go, I always remain here .. because Los Angeles IS my home. I understand the allure of this city and see how cold and cruel it can be as well.. it’s fascinating.

Marie Digby to Be a Special Touring Correspondent for the 2010 Lilith Fair

Well the headline pretty much says it all huh? I’ll quote Miss Digby on the details since she sums it up nicely:

I am very excited to announce that I will be the special touring correspondent for the 2010 Lilith Tour, for ABC and ABC Music Lounge. I will be traveling and reporting from across the country directly from the Lilith Tour. Fans will be able to experience Lilith through my home videos from the road as well as my interaction with fans and artists. In addition, I am performing a special acoustic set each night of the tour from the ABC Music Lounge.

My newest cover song “Building A Mystery” is a tribute to Lilith founder, Sarah McLachlan. The video is available now on ABCMusicLounge.com as well as here.

And with that, here is her cover of Sarah’s “Building a Mystery”. Congrats Marie!

Marié Digby, Clara Chung, and Sam Hart to Perform Together in San Diego

Luminence, an event held at UCSD to promote Asian American Talent is holding their next event on the 28th of April. This one will feature Marie Digby along with recent Kollaboration winner Clara Chung and Sam Hart (aka the Mario Kart Love Song guy). It looks like it’s gonna be a fresh, acoustic event, so if you’re in the San Diego area, definitely clear your calendar for that day! You can find out more at the facebook event page.

She may have had a little bit of help from YouTube, but Marié Digby has a talent all her own. After her cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” went viral, Digby continued to showcase her skills in such hits as “Say it Again,” “Stupid for You,” and “Breathing Underwater.”

We’re also featuring Clara Chung in this very special Luminance. Clara recently won 1st place at the 10th Kollaboration competition. She does an impressive cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and is sure to blow you away with her powerful vocals.

Sam Hart under the YouTube name blinktwice4y captivated viewers with his “Mario Kart Love Song” hitting over 4 million views. This humorous and talented singer-songwriter is sure to entertain.

“Luminance is created to provide a new stage for Asian American musicians. The goal is to illuminate creative talent that has always been here but never acknowledged in mainstream media. Only very recently have we seen a wonderful growing presence of Asian American talent through free online media outlets such as YouTube and BlogTV. Through these outlets, Asian Americans sitting in front of their computers screens are finally able to identify with faces that are still never seen on TV or radio. The millions upon millions of viewers, supporters, and fans for these artists show that the talent and desire for them to be seen is there. Music industry heads just need to eventually recognize this. Which is why The Loft is proud to help this movement with Luminance by opening the computer screen barrier and bringing them live to UC San Diego.”

Critic’s Corner: Marie Digby – Breathing Underwater

Marie Digby really gained a lot of attention through her acoustic cover of ‘Umbrella’ on Youtube back in 2007. Since that time she released an album in 2008, gotten numerous TV song placements, started modeling a little bit,  and even released some work in Japan (her mother is Japanese). With her sophomore US effort Breathing Underwater, Marie Digby is out to prove she belongs to stay and isn’t an artist riding out 15 minutes of internet fueled flame. Personally, I really enjoyed her debut album Unfold and was highly anticipating her new release. Originally slated to drop in the first half of 2009, it was pushed back to the fall, causing a long wait for her fans.

So was Breathing Underwater worth the wait? Let’s find out!

Marie Digby Covers ‘Telephone’ by Lady Gaga x Beyonce

Although there are a TON of song covers out there on youtube, the ones by Marie Digby tend to stand out and this one is no different. She puts her own acoustic spin to the Lady Gaga x Beyonce collab for ‘Telephone’. The song transitions well from electro pop to acoustic pop rock as Marie effortlessly belts away this catchy tune. Very nice.

I have massive respect for Lady Gaga’s musicianship and commitment to her art (and some weird fascination with her penchant for leotards – that I won’t be sporting anytime soon.. ha )… so I thought I’d do a bit of her new song ‘ Telephone ‘. Plus i can relate to the topic right now ;)

Happy New Year everyone !!!! I wish you all the most amazing, love filled, and inspiring 2010.

I’ve got a lot of exciting things to share with you this year.. namely, my movie ‘ feel ‘ !! That’s still on its way in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, if you don’t have it, you can pick up my newest album Breathing Underwater at all music stores !! :)

love,

Marie Digby Models for Arden B Photoshoot

Singer Marie Digby is proving that she’s talented in other ways besides music by being featured as a model for the clothing line Arden B. She shows off her fresh natural look  in a variety of outfits and looks great the entire time.

Myspace even featured Marie’s photoshoot video on their front page yesterday. A big congrats to her!

Marie Digby’s “Feel” to be Featured on ‘The Hills’

Caught this tweet from Marie Digby earlier today:

ohhh i love the music supervisor for the hills. my song ‘ Feel ‘ will be on the dec. 1st season finale. I’ll be playing NYC that night ;)

Now I have never seen the show, nor do I plan on watching the finale but it’s still a great placement for Marie and we just want ot say Congrats! If you have yet to hear the song you can check out the MV (Japan) and Stripped version. It’s a great contemporary pop record.

Marie Digby Covers Owl City’s “Fireflies”; Hits 200K Subscribers; Going on Tour

I really like her interpretation of it (though not as much as David Choi’s version).  She puts an almost folksy, dream like spin to it.

I was introduced to this Owl City song by a friend .. we blasted it while driving down the streets of l.a with the windows down and it was perfect… this is my little ol’ cover of it. Oh, and you should check out my friend chief wakil’s remix of this as well … youtube.com/chiefwakil
I am going out on tour in about a week and would love to see you all while I’m out and about the country !!

But in addition to the new video, Ms Digby has announced that she has hit 200K Subscribers on Youtube! A great milestone.

Today I hit 200k subscribers !! thank you SOO much to everyone who has ever listened and watched :) I hope to keep making videos that will entertain you or brighten your day even if it only lasts about 3 minutes.. lol

And not only can people watch her online but they can now catch her live as she embarks on a 10 stop nation-wide tour. So make sure to catch her show if you’re in any of the following areas!

Showdown: Marie Digby vs Rin on the Rox

Showdown time! So both of these videos were posted months back but I recently came across them again and thought they make an intriguing match up. This time around the artists are covering Ne-yo’s “Part of the List”; a great r&b song from his album last year. Let’s check out each act’s rendition:

Marie Digby

Rin on the Rox

So who did you like more? On one hand Marie’s stripped down rendition was beautiful and moving while Rin on the Rox stayed more faithful to the original but brought some incredible harmonies. I dunno about this one folks, I’m on the fence here. If you can choose, cast your vote below!
