The Covers by Duets Youtube Round-Up 5/17/12

Two can play at that game? What game? I dunno, I just wanted to introduce the concept of two. Deuce. Double. 1+1. Snake Eyes. Duets. Because that’s what we’ve rounded-up for you today. This is all about about two musical artists covering songs both new and old and giving you two subjects to see and hear. This would have been more appropriate for a “Twos”day…. OK, sorry about that. Enjoy!

Paul Kim x Jennifer Chung Cover “Take Care” by Drake x Rihanna

Jason Chen x Cathy Nguyen Cover “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction

Melissa Polinar x Tim Halperin Cover “Not Over You” by Gavin Degraw

As a nod to our fans from various nations abroad, we’ve put together yet another collection of international themed covers and remixes. Most are covers of songs from Asian Pop markets, with a couple translated tunes thrown in for good measure. Go ahead and have your pick at the batch, there’s bound to be a listen or two that will catch your fancy.

The Solo Rap Cyphers Youtube Round-Up – 5/11/12

I’ll keep this one short and to the point. Rap. Remixes. Cyphers. The production values are low, and these are one-off verses over other people’s beats, many of which you should recognize if you’re a Rap fan. These are simple and to the point… or maybe even lazy in some cases, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Alexander Spit Remixes “ADHD” by Kendrick Lamar

Hopie Remixes “Shot Caller” by French Montana

Jeremy Passion Joins B. Reith & Kevin Olusola for a Performance of “I’ll Get By”

One of my favorite aspects of music is when the artists can’t help but express themselves. In this impromptu, guerrilla performance, Jeremy Passion linked up with Kevin Olusola and B. Reith for a rendition “I’ll Get By” – off B. Reith’s album How the Story Ends. Olusola on the cello and beatbox is particularly impressive. It’s a pretty entertaining watch and a neat spin on the song. I just wish Passion could have been mic’d up!

Sophia Moon Shares an Acoustic Rendition of “Echo”

In the fall of 2009, Sophia Moon released the Staring Back at Me album, before eventually seeing her output pace trickle down to the point where we didn’t hear much from her in the past couple years. However, we’re starting to see glimpses of renewed life in Sophia’s musical career, with a new cover here and there and in this case, a new spin on an old tune. “Echo” was a Dance/Pop track off the aforementioned album, but she’s put an acoustic guitar flip on the track, slowing it down and making it more of a ballad. Take a listen below.

The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12

We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!

Misfit Remixes “Sail” by Awol Nation

Ed-Two Remixes “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar x Dr. Dre

Thai Remixes “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller

J-ricz x Sizzle Remix “Live My Life” by Far East Movement x Justin Bieber

FM’s ‘Dirty Bass’ Release Date Pushed Back; Shares Remixes of “Live My Life”

Ok, so this is a good news/bad news type of situation. First, the bad news: it looks like the release date to the Far East Movement‘s Dirty Bass album has been pushed back a couple weeks. The date floating around is now June 5th instead of May 22nd.  On the positive side, they’ve posted up a number of remixes to their current single Justin Bieber assisted single, “Live My Life”. You can check those out below and hopefully it’ll help tide you over an extra couple weeks until the album drops.

The In-Studio Covers Youtube Round-Up – 4/26/12

Thursday feels about right for another round-up, what do you think? We’ve put together a collection of in-studio performance videos where the artists chose to stay in the comfort of their creative environments. R&B, Pop, Hip-Hop, and everything in between all have representation in this mix. With 10 videos, I’m positive you’ll find something to enjoy, if not all.

A couple notes:

  • Sam Tsui kills it again.
  • I still can’t believe that new Brian McKnight song actually happened
  • I prefer Gabe’s version of “Strip” to the original
  • Erika’s cover/flip is on point

David Choi Covers “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction

Sam Tsui Sings a Britney Spears Medley

Erika David Covers “Glad You Came” by The Wanted

Andy Suzuki Covers “Ready to Learn” by Brian McKnight

The Cover MVs Youtube Round-Up – 4/23/12

The first round-up for the last full week of April is a collection of cover music videos. The bread and butter of most Youtube artists are their cover videos, and sometimes they go the extra mile and put together a music video set to the tune/instrumental written by another. This particular batch of videos happen to be mostly of the R&B and Hip-Hop variety, but a couple of Pop records found their way into the mix too.

Jennifer Chung x New Heights Cover “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele

Lil Crazed x Traphik x Auburn Remix “Sleazy” by Ke$ha

Baiyu Covers “Roc Me Out” by Rihanna

Jasmine V x JDrew Cover “Crew Love” by Drake x The Weeknd

Happy Friday the 13th! Today’s name of the game is medleys and mash-ups, where all the artists took two or more (sometimes many more) and blended them together to present a completely different creation all together. We have entries by Meesh, AJeezy, Tousher, the JRA, and Mr. Manongdo covering everything from Disney to Drake. Enjoy your end to the work week with these tunes!
