Just ‘Cause: FM’s DJ Virman vs DJ Brass Monkey

Producer, DJ, and ever-present-but-silent member of the Far East Movement, DJ Virman, has gotten a little shine in the form of a video short pitting him against the formidable DJ Brass Monkey. It’s kind of a producer/DJ’s showcase for the fourth man of FM, a much deserved and overdue look if you ask me. See if you can pick up the couple FM songs that are featured throughout the clip.

A Fanastic Cover of FM’s “Rocketeer” by Jenny Suk

Even though we don’t feature covers as often anymore, we just had to put this one up on the site. This is easily one of my favorite covers of the Far East Movement’s hit single “Rocketeer“. Jenny Suk did an awesome job switching it up and putting a little bluesy pop spin on it. I’m loving this rendition and I’m sure most of you will too.

Critic’s Corner: Far East Movement – Free Wired

Yes, we know this album is 5 months old. But we’re still digging ourselves out of the perpetual backlog of album reviews and we definitely couldn’t leave out one of the most significant releases in years for the AA music scene. Free Wired is the album that helped propel the Far East Movement from the “up and coming” stage they have been at for years to the “they’ve made it big” stage where you can hardly go a day in public without hearing one of their songs. So is Free Wired the result of great marketing and luck? Or is it truly worth the mass exposure and recognition that it’s gotten?

D-Pryde x August Rigo Remix FM’s “Rocketeer” [Free DL]

D-Pryde has been releasing a slew of remixes and covers on Youtube, but his latest featuring August Rigo where they remix FM’s Rocketeer was one of my favorites. To be 100% frank I’m starting to get to the point where I’m tired of hearing so many remixes of the awesome song but I guess I have room for one more. D does a good job on the verses as expected, and August Rigo does a fairly decent job covering Ryan Tedder’s vocals. He adds a touch of Weezy to the sound. Last but not least, it’s a free DL.

FM Performs Live on Conan

Last night the fellas of the Far East Movement had another milestone national television appearance, landing a spot on comic heavy weight Conan. They performed their current rising single “Rocketeer” but in a remixed form with new verses and Prohgress on the keys. Ryan Tedder (It’s actually Frankmusik) even made it out to sing his signature hook. FM just wont stop! Congrats to some of the hardest working guys in the industry.

Check out some behind the scenes pics on their site!

Far East Movement Releases Short Film for the “Rocketeer” Remix

We’re a little late in posting this but either way… there’s very little doubt that FM lives and breathes to rep the city of angels. And they continue to prove that with their latest collaboration piece, a short film set to a remix of their hit single “Rocketeer”. It’s a stripped down version of the original complete with more LA specific visuals and animation. It’s definitely more stylized than the official video, including cameos from people like Snoop. It’s a dope visual arts piece and special props to DPD for putting it all together.

When we did the song Rocketeer off our Free Wired album, it was inspired by how we grew up in Downtown LA as LA Dreamers living on a dream and never knowing where it would take you. We wanted to paint a portrait of where we live, from where we started, to the free wired mashed up community of dreamers that make up LA. We linked up with our neighbor, DPD of Transparent Agency, and went around with a camera to capture our home… then hooked up the same sound set up of old mics and amps we first used to rehearse on, and recorded this live remix in the old backroom to give it a sound like when we first started makin music. Made this for dreamers world wide…

FM Posts Live Walmart Soundcheck Footage

By this point there is a ton of FM performance footage out there but these clips were so clean and well produced they were shared on FM’s very own VEVO channel. These clips are from a Walmart Soundcheck event. The first is of them performing their ubiqitous hit “Like a G6″ with the help of Dev. The second is of their great follow up single “Rocketeer”. These guys really do go all out on their performances, Kev Nish’s voice is completely shot! I still need to catch em live myself. Unfortunately Vevo won’t let these clips embed so head on over to their channel to see em!

Showdown: Jason Yang vs Clara Chung vs Erin Kim x GOWE

The “Rocketeer” covers just won’t stop! Today Clara Chung dropped her own rendition on the bubbling follow-up single to “Like a G6″ from the Far East Movement’s major label debut and it’s inspired another Showdown post. We’ve already shared several covers already but we’ve picked three new ones to compare and have you vote for your favorite.

Jason Yang works his instrumental mojo to craft a non-vocal version of the song. Clara brings her trademark charm to the song & arrangement. Lastly, Seattle Kollaboration 2010 competitors and now collaborators Erin Kim & GOWE (along with Travis Graham) have teamed up for their own rendition a little more faithful to the original. So which version were you liking more?

Mike Isberto Covers Far East Movement’s “Rocketeer”

As Far East Movement’s newest track “Rocketeer” catches air waves everywhere, You tube videos have been uploaded non stop on covers of this addictive song. Singers like the ever so talented Mike Isberto, who is known for his great covers and unique voice, also decided to put his own twist on the song and it’s ridiculously smooth. The acoustic cover not only showcases his talent but also sheds some lime light on his hidden talent; free flow. The cover finishes strong and it’s great alternative to the original.

David Choi x Kina Grannis x Wong Fu x KevJumba x Nigahiga & More Cover FM’s “Rocketeer”

David Choi and friends have put this fun little video cover together of Far East Movement’s “Rocketeer”. There are video appearances by Wong Fu, Nigahiga, KevJumba, Kina Grannis, and more. I gotta say, DC sure keeps a talented circle of friends. This is definitely one of the more novel covers I’ve heard of the song. Hopefully the original will continue to rocket up the charts similar to “Like a G6″ did.
