Here’s another batch of new videos from Lyricks/TBC/SuperNoVa and local affiliates. In the first clip Lyricks is joined by Sickboi on a chill track called “Beauty Salon” over a dope Raekwon beat. In our second vid, Lyricks spits a few bars at an older performance at Princeton University, with Mani backing him up. Lastly, we’ve thrown in a video showcasing a joint effort by EOM on the production and the DMV’s K-Prime and Lyricks on song that’s yet to see an official release. So keep your ears to the ground cause I’m sure it’ll be out in the not too distant future.

The Kollaboration DC 2011 Contestants Release Promo MV
Wow, nearly one year has already passed since the maiden launch of Kollaboration in the nation’s capital. Let me tell you first hand, it was quite the show and experience last year and one I highly recommend you check out now that it’s in it’s second year. If you’re anywhere near the DMV, then do not miss out! The show will be held at UDC on September 17th, just a few short weeks away. Additional information can be found at the FB event page, at the Kollab DC website, and after the break. Jen Kwok is slated to host with a number of guest performers including Sickboi and last year’s winner, Chip Han!

[New Music] Sickboi – “Why You Being a D*ckhead” [Free DL]
New track from VA’s Sickboi, a remix of Kate Nash’s “Dickhead”. It’s pretty cool how the song was flipped with the added percussion and turning it into a Hip-Hop track. The simple twist has it sounding like some of Atmosphere’s more recent work. A strong release from Sick, and a free DL here.
Lyricks x Sickboi Release “Take Over the City”
Ly to the ricks has been real busy lately, as he’s just dropped another track. This one is a collaboration with his fellow VA brethren Sickboi. They chose to spit over the beat to Kanye’s “Lord Lord Lord”, a jazzy, mellow instrumental perfect for vibing to. Unfortunately the fellows from SuperNoVA don’t seem to be too keen on providing DL links yet, so your only method of delivery is YT at the moment.
The Freshmen: Yongie Phresh Releases “Teach Me How To Yongie” Ft Decipher x Sickboi
Today we are debuting another new feature on a-Tunes, and it’s called The Freshmen. Basically this is where we feature artists who haven’t quite developed a following yet, and are still working on establishing themselves and making their official debut. Usually this will mean the artists featured here have not released any official singles, mixtapes, albums, or music videos, nor have they acquired a big fan base yet. But hey, we all have to start somewhere right? We love to see talented folks develop and grow.
But one more thing, it’s important that you the readers vote either thumbs up or thumbs down on these posts because this will help us decide which of these artists can graduate from The Freshmen and be a part of the regular rotation of a-Tunes Music News. Yongie Phresh is a new face stemming out of the PA. After working closely with his fellow Philly rep Decipher, YP has decided to do his own thing, but not without the help of a few established acts. In this track he remixes the 2010 hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the Cali Swag District and puts his own spin on it – “Teach Me How to Yongie”. The song features veterans Decipher & Sickboi on the track. What do you guys think? Thumbs up or Thumbs down !?!
Sickboi Remixes Kanye’s “Runaway” [Free DL]
Sickboi has been dropping a lot of remixes lately and here’s another one to add to the list. He’s taken Kanye West’s avant garde single “Runaway” and puts his own spin on it. I enjoyed this one more than some of his others, maybe because I’m also a huge fan of the original. But overall I think this style suits Sick well. DL the song for free here.
Sickboi Drops “Til The Lights Come On” [Free DL]
Here’s a new track from VA’s Sickboi called “Til the Lights Come On”. It’s basically a song all about what happens when you’re under the influence. Topic wise, I ain’t too big a drinker so I can’t really relate but he chose a good beat to use and his flow is clean. Like what you hear? It’s a free DL, so grab it!
Sickboi Shares “Ups & Downs”
Virginia based MC Sickboi has posted up a new track that he recorded over a korean hip-hop beat by PE2NY called “Ups and Downs”. It’s a social commentary track that takes a look at the current state of times and the experiences that many of us have gone through in recent years. I’m liking this one. It’s good to hear a track that actually speaks about a relevant topic.
Sickboi Drops “Luxury”
Sickboi is continuing his “sick sixteen” series with this 2nd freeverse entitled “Luxury”. It’s nice but I wish he turned it into a full song. It has a lot of promise to be a great complete track with verses and a hook. Anyway the video is just him in the home studio, but if you’re liking the track you can DL it for free here.
Sickboi Remixes “Hello, Good Morning” by Dirty Money
Sickboi has released a remix of the Dirty Money track “Hello, Good Morning” by adding a verse to the beginning of the track. The dude’s flow is on point but the video was a bit messy and unsynced. Regardless it’s good to hear new material from Sickboi and hopefully we’ll hear new full-length tracks in the near future as well. DL his version of the song here.
