Thai, the 454 artist, just dropped a new visual (courtesy of GinoRocks, per usual) for the track “Hold You Down”, featuring Suboi. The San Jose transplant via Oregon teamed up with the female Hip-Hop artist for this Pop-friendly rap tune that makes for an easy summer-listen. Fans and supporters can DL the song for free, here. Thai has been the most consistent of the 454 artist since their debut a couple years back. I wonder if the rest of the crew will start to make a comeback this year as well.

The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12
We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!
Misfit Remixes “Sail” by Awol Nation
Ed-Two Remixes “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar x Dr. Dre
Thai Remixes “Donald Trump” by Mac Miller
J-ricz x Sizzle Remix “Live My Life” by Far East Movement x Justin Bieber
Thai Discusses His Rough Upbringing, Gang Life & More w/ Jackfroot
Thai of 454 Life Entertainment opens up in this interview with Jackfroot, where he talks about growing up in tough circumstances, the significance of the number 454, the gang life, music and everything in between. The interview really helps paint a picture of the artist and his life’s story. The guy has experienced a lot, and if you’re a fan you should check this clip out and gain a little bit of context.

Lookin’ Back: Thai – “Roll Wit Uz” (2006?)
This music video is roughly 6 years old (2006-ish), and it’s an interesting look back at the rapper Thai before he linked up with 454. Even without the help of fancy DSLRs and high production values, Thai was on his video grind back when Youtube was still in it’s infancy. The artist found much of his success by participating in forums like AznRaps, and having his music spread via word of mouth when social media meant AIM – and that’s about it.
It’s kind of crazy how much things change, yet stay the same. Love him or hate him, he’s still working relentlessly on his craft after all these years. It may be in a more polished package, but the core of the artist is still the same. I can respect that.
This may be a little more recent than some of our other retrospective posts, but it’s still fun Lookin’ Back.

The Songs About Jeremy Lin Round-Up
If you are Asian-American or have a fair amount Asian-American friends, you may have noticed that NBA’s latest feel-good story, Jeremy Lin, has been a huge hot topic as of late. He’s become a starter for the NY Knicks and has had some great games for several consecutive nights.
Well, the rising basketball star has certainly inspired a lot of people, including some of our artists. Already we’re beginning to see songs about Mr. Lin and we suspect it isn’t over yet. So this post will serve as a running collection of the songs, in reverse chronological order of release (Newest at the top). So far it’s Gowe and Jin, but I’m sure there”ll be more to follow!

The Slants – “Capture Me Burning”
Brenan x Thai Release the “Superstar” MV
If you’re looking for an easy R&B/Pop jam to start off your week, “Superstar” may be a good track to check out. The Brenan song features Thai of 454 fame on a radio friendly single with a video produced by 454 Films. The single actually dropped at the tail end of Summer but this is the official release of it’s accompanying music video. Like what you hear? You can purchase the single via the links below.
The Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 10/26/11
Mid-week hump… why don’t we have another Youtube round-up! Today’s theme is “rap remix”, so all of the following are beats that our rappers decided to flip and use for their own purposes. Nothing wrong with that, just as long as you recognize it’s not a completely organic offering. The first two in our collection are placed as such because they have, by far, the best production values among the group. Thai’s in particular, is up to 454′s usual impeccable visual standards. But don’t sleep on Miss TLu of On Fire, the girl shows promise. The rest of the gang include a collab by Toestah & Jen Chung, LA’s 3Strykes representing too, Lil Crazed with a little spin-off of MGK, DUKE keeping things fun with a LMFAO joint and Verse rounding out the pack. Lot’s of Jay-Z x Kanye beats in here, I guess they are a crowd favorite.
Thai Remixes “Dreams Money Can Buy” by Drake
Miss TLu of OnFire Ent Remixes “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z & Kanye West
Thai Flys Out the “Broken Wings” MV
Earlier in the summer, Thai & 454 released a strong song called “Broken Wings” featuring Liz Stefano. They are now following up with a proper music video to promote it with, one that matches the track fairly well – especially the various shot locations. The only downside is that Liz doesn’t make an appearance in the video. You can chalk up another sharp looking release from the 454 crew. In general, we’ve seen a number of well produced MVs in the past 24 hours.
Thai of 454 Featured in XXL (September 2011)

It looks like D-Pryde wasn’t our only artist to get a mention in the latest (September ’11) issue of Hip-Hop mag XXL. Portland’s veteran MC, Thai (now of 454 fame), happened to find himself in the pages of the publication as well. Congrats to Thai! It’s about time his years of hard work was recognized on larger level.
The 27-year old rhymer is looking to put on for Portland, Oregon, and give a glimpse into the Asian underground lifestyle. Judging by the comments, he’s on the right path. “I don’t really remember anyone coming out of Portland, let alone a Vietnamese cat,” says DJ Skee, “with a little development behind him, I think That has potential.”
