Toestah Shares a Preview of His “Work Ethic”

We’ve been hearing about the Dangerzone mixtape from at least as far back as November of last year. Although Toestah has been a bit inconsistent with the forthcoming of information, we’ve gotten another nugget in song form – “Work Ethic”. This chill, laid-back Hip-Hop track is a juxtaposition when paired with the topic at hand – sticking to the grind. If all goes according to plan, we can get this single along with the rest of the mixtape sometime this summer.

The Covers by Duets Youtube Round-Up 5/17/12

Two can play at that game? What game? I dunno, I just wanted to introduce the concept of two. Deuce. Double. 1+1. Snake Eyes. Duets. Because that’s what we’ve rounded-up for you today. This is all about about two musical artists covering songs both new and old and giving you two subjects to see and hear. This would have been more appropriate for a “Twos”day…. OK, sorry about that. Enjoy!

Jennifer Chung Unveils More Information About Her Upcoming Mixtape

We’ve been hearing about Jennifer Chung‘s Pop mixtape since the latter half of last year, but all indications point to it being finally near completion. We now have a release date – May 12th – and for those lucky enough to be in the SoCal area, she’ll be hosting a release party. The project is a lot more pop oriented, with the production handled by SmashHitta, and is comprised of a mixture of originals and perhaps a few covers thrown in for good measure. It’ll be available as a free DL, so no need to worry if you’re a little tight on the fundage. And expect a number of features, including Maribelle Anes and Toestah.

Showdown: Azuré vs Toestah vs Nump Trump vs Mike B vs On Fire Entertainment

Why don’t we indulge ourselves in a little leap year Showdown, where we have a little friendly comparison of artists that cover/remix the same songs and then vote for the one we think pulled it off better.

Those that are heavy Hip-Hop listeners should be familiar with “Stay Schemin’”, a song by Rick Ross featuring Drake & French Montana. The beat is too sick to ignore, and it would seem a lot of other MCs would agree with me – hence the proliferation of remixes all over Youtube/Soundcloud/Bandcamp and the like. Today, we have 5 in particular we’d like you to listen to/watch and let us know which one is the best flip. Interestingly enough, all the rappers in this Showdown are from the West, repping the whole cost from San Diego to Seattle.

Azuré

Toestah

Nump Trump x Young Gully

Mike B x Yungin

On Fire Entertainment

Alrighty, now that you’ve seen them all, which artist head you hitting replay and which had you hitting skip? Vote for your favorite in the widget below, whether it’s for Daygo’s Azuré, Toestah, Nump Trump of 454, Mike B, or the OFE crew. Remember, the winner gets an all expense paid trip to… your heart!

afterschoolspecial x The Dreamlapse Project Debut MV for “Dreamers”

Now this is a pretty cool watch. Sometimes good things take time to come to fruition. Such is the case with the music video to “Dreamers” from afterschoolspecial‘s album, It’s All In Your Head. For this music video, they enlisted the new “it” team of the moment, The Dreamlapse Project to create a fun visual in the first person format a la Prodigy. And to help with the project, they’ve gotten everyone to make a cameo and join along for the ride. When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Check out the notes after the video below for the complete list of talent as well as a link to the BTS post.

Thanks so much to Daniel and Scott from The Dreamlapse Project for partnering up on this music video. We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. They really went above and beyond to get this video done so high five to them. Also a HUGE thanks to everyone who made a cameo in the video. Thanks for giving of your time to take part in what i see as such a community collaboration. Inspiring. Cathy Nguyen, Aj Rafael, David Choi, Jason Chen, Jennifer Chung, Joseph Vincent, Toestah, Arika Sato, Kevin Lien, Dawen, Paul Dateh, Andi Terada, Geo and Chuck of Instant Noodles Crew, Wong Fu Productions, and Ryan Higa. Another important note is this video is that NONE of this would be possible without the backing and work of afterschoolspecial who need their due credit- Jaylen Green, Keane Aranita, Todd Olson, Brian Figueroa, and Victor Velasquez.

Toestah Gives a Reason to “Celebrate”

There are times where Toestah reminds me of Big Sean and well, this is one of those times. In celebration of his birthday, the rapper has dropped a song appropriately christened as “Celebrate”. Nothing too intense here, just an easy-listening Hip-Hop track that’s enjoyable as a casual listen. a-Tunes wishes Toestah a Happy Birthday along with many more! DL the song as a freebie here.

J. Reyez Releases the ‘Broken HeArt’ Mixtape

The Non-Video Youtube Rap Remix Round-Up – 11/16/11

Rap, more than any other genre, tends to lend itself to a surplus of mixtape tracks, leaks, and remixes. It’s a part of the musical fabric that makes up the style. Taking beats from other people’s tracks and putting your own spin on it, improving upon and out rhyming the other man… it’s to be expected. But the sheer quantity of remixes means that somethings gotta give, and in the Youtube generation that means we see many “videos” without much video footage at all, if any. Instead, rappers use the medium to quickly broadcast their remix to the world, often forgoing videos in the interest of time and effort – perhaps settling on slapping some cover art on their and calling it a day. Today’s round-up is a collection of those videos… no need to pay attention to the clip here. Just press play, move on to another tab in your browser and enjoy.

Toestah Invites You to the “Dangerzone”

Thus far, we’ve heard a lot of remixes and covers from the rapper Toestah. Thankfully that trend changes with the leak of his new song “Dangerzone”. The track will reportedly be included on his upcoming mixtape (no word on the release date just yet). So what was my impression? I came away optimistic about the dude after hearing this track. Makes me wonder what can happen with the proper promotion, hopefully Catch Adventures can provide the necessary backing to take him to the top!
