Utada Hikaru’s album available at Best Buy retail stores

Excuse the crappy screenshot but,I was thumbing through this week’s Best Buy ad and lo and behold I found Utada’s ‘This is the One’ album for sale for 7.99 @ Best Buy.

I dont think any US pop release by an asian artist has made it to a best buy print ad, has it? Either way, it may not mean instant success but glad to see the girl’s CD is getting a decent marketing push.

Oh and I’m still waiting on my copy in the mail although I’ve had the leaked version for some time now.. shh, don’t tell anyone. I’ll base my review off of the final CD version though.

Utada Hikaru Myspace Karoake Competition

I’m a little late on this but Utada Hikaru & Myspace have teamed up to host an ongoing karoake competition through May 11th.

Check out the details courtesy of Ningin:

Myspace Karaoke page fans can submit recordings of themselves singing the album’s lead single “Come Back To Me” until May 11, 2009, when Utada will select the winner herself. What’s the prize? The grand prize winner gets a trip to Japan with three friends, and their own chance to hang out with Utada herself and have a Karaoke session together! Second prize winner gets an Utada gift bag, while the third prize winners get autographed albums.

Personally I’m a big fan of the single ‘Come Back to Me’. Don’t forget, the album releases May 12th! Also head over to the product page on Amazon for an exclusive behind the music peek at the album.

Utada Hikaru video update courtesy of Ningin

Ningin has been provided a short video update by Utada’s record label, Island Def Jam. Since I can’t embed their video here, make sure you head on over to their site and check it out!

Hopefully her buzz will continue to grow as her March 24th US album release approaches. Also, I hope the rest of the album will be as strong as her first single “Come Back to Me”.

Plus they are sponsoring an autographed album give away so make sure you check that out too!

Utada Hikaru interviewed by Ningin

With Utada Hikaru‘s new US album release quickly approaching, Ningin was able to sit down with her and chat about everything from her nickname (Hikki) to why she would rather not work with big name producers at the moment.

This time the reason why I decided to work with Stargate and Tricky was because I didn’t want to have any big producers on the album like Timbaland-type producers that have their own color coming out

Read the rest at Ningin! Parts 1 & 2.

It’s not the smoothest read but there are some interesting tidbits in there.

Utada Hikaru to attempt comeback in US

Utada Hikaru (whom I’ve been a fan of since First Love) is scheduled to drop a new single on February 10th and a new album on March 24th.

The single is called “Come Back to Me”. I think Utada is very talented but hope this release will be better than the underwhelming “Easy Breezy” from her last album.
