The Videoless Youtube Remixes Round-Up 5/3/12

We did it before, a couple months back; bringing you a collection of remixes done by artists that chose to forgo creating a video too. Instead we get a mixture of static images, cover art, and if we’re lucky, a slide show of some type. This has been a staple of the digital age for Hip-Hop artists, as it’s too time consuming to make a video for all their mixtape-ready songs – whether or not you feel they are cutting corners is a completely different story. At the very least you can listen to the following in the background, knowing your not missing much by not paying attention to the (lack of) visuals!

[Live Performance] Dawen – “Wake Up” on MYX TV

Here’s a dope performance clip of Dawen over at the MYX TV studios where he sings his Asian American anthem “Wake Up” from the album American Me. The song’s a couple years old at this point but for those who haven’t heard it, it’s almost a required listen. Ya gotta love what MYX is doing for the community! Though I have to be honest, as someone who’s familiar with his catalog, I’m starting to wish he’d perform some new material.

Dawen is easily one of the more talented musicians that we cover, injecting a little bit of soul, social conciousness, and jazz/R&B to create a unique sound. Don’t know what we mean? Check out this performance clip he did for KAC Media in a live studio session. He performs some of his originals “Wake Up” and “Just You”, off his 2009 album American Me.

Dawen Performs “Wake Up” & “Just You” Live for Turtlist Media

Dawen, who dropped his album American Me last year, performs his singles ‘Wake Up’ & ‘Just You’ for Turtlist Media. ‘Wake Up’ is one of his stronger cuts from the album, and he sings the deliberate lyrics with conviction and authenticity. I think I even prefer this stripped down, unplugged type of version over the studio cut. But if you’ve ever faced ignorance due to your ethnicity, this song’s for you.

As for ‘Just You’, it’s a gentle ballad that sounds great on Piano. Once again I think I like it better live!
