See the Trailer for The Wonder Girls TeenNick TV Movie

The Wonder Girls and TeenNick have brought out a new trailer for their upcoming, self-titled TV movie (the one that they launched “the DJ is Mine” for). On one hand, I’m happy the ladies are getting some much needed exposure, on the other hand I really hope the movie isn’t quite as awkward as the trailer dialogue would lead us to believe. But maybe I’m just a jaded old man that’s out of touch with today’s youngsters. Whipper-snappers.

There’s even more awkward goodness over at the TeenNick site.

Premiere Poster for The Wonder Girls

With the impending release of The Wonder Girls Movie on TeenNick on February 2nd, the Korean quintet held their movie premiere event last night. The above picture was an image they shared of their official movie poster. Although the TV Movie may be geared to an age demographic outside that of many of our readers, it can’t be denied that JYP Entertainment has worked full force to keep the promotional engine running to keep these girls in the public eye. First there was the cross over single, “Nobody”, then a tour with Bieber and Jordan Sparks, and now a cable TV film? Not too shabby. Let’s see if it makes a dent in the American pop culture market!

Say Cheese!

Just ‘Cause: Kids React to K-Pop

I caught this over at Angry Asian Man, and I have to say it’s kind of hilarious. Some of the comments are a big ignorant but some of the kids are actually deceptively insightful. As K-Pop continues to make inroads into the US market and gain international fanfare, it’ll be interesting to see how they will fare with the rest of the uninitiated. With Se7en, BoA, the Wonder Girls, Girls Generation having already made the jump, and with more on the way, do you think they will be able to gain any traction. It’s tough to say based on this small sample group… but kids do say the darnedest, and occasionally most jacked up things. Here are some of the gems of quotes you can look forward to.

  • “They all look the same”
  • “It’s official, they’re copying Lady Gaga”
  • “They look kinda good”
  • “Who comes up with these names?”
  • “This is like Rebecca Black times ten!”

Why? Just ‘Cause.

The quintet from South Korea known as the Wonder Girls have debuted their latest single for the Western market, “The DJ is Mine” featuring the Nick Cannon mentored group, The School Gyrls. The Wonder Girls Tease New Single – “The DJ Is Mine”; Watch the TeenNick Movie Trailer

It would appear that the Wonder Girls are revving up the promotional engine for their stateside activities again. Now that the new year has begun, we have a teaser for a new single, “The DJ is Mine”, featuring the Nick Cannon managed pop act, the School Gyrls. By the sound of it, we’re going to soon find out what the Korean Pop import will sound like when set to the tune of a little dub-step. The single is from their upcoming TeenNick movie, The Wonder Girls.

According to one blog, the music video may see it’s debut at the CES show this week. Why at a the Consumer Electronics Show? Well, the debut will take place in conjunction with the folks at Samsung as they showcase the music video in all it’s unnecessary 3D glory. Looks like JYP is diggin deep for this one.

The Wonder Girls Land on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart

This isn’t exactly breaking news but we still found it worth sharing – International all-female pop group, The Wonder Girls, have finally found themselves listed on some Billboard metrics. No, they didn’t have a number single with “Be My Baby” or album with Wonder World, but rather, they have debuted at #33 on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart. Never heard of the chart? Here’s an explanation:

A ranking of the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites. Artists’ popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays, as measured by Next Big Sound.

It’s interesting to see Billboard continue to explore new ways to measure and quantify music consumption in an increasingly medium-diverse world. That being said, this is a notable milestone but I imagine it’s not quite the impact the ladies and JYP are willing to settle for. We’ll keep you updated along the way!
