The Wonder Girls Tease New Single – “The DJ Is Mine”; Watch the TeenNick Movie Trailer

It would appear that the Wonder Girls are revving up the promotional engine for their stateside activities again. Now that the new year has begun, we have a teaser for a new single, “The DJ is Mine”, featuring the Nick Cannon managed pop act, the School Gyrls. By the sound of it, we’re going to soon find out what the Korean Pop import will sound like when set to the tune of a little dub-step. The single is from their upcoming TeenNick movie, The Wonder Girls.

According to one blog, the music video may see it’s debut at the CES show this week. Why at a the Consumer Electronics Show? Well, the debut will take place in conjunction with the folks at Samsung as they showcase the music video in all it’s unnecessary 3D glory. Looks like JYP is diggin deep for this one.

The Wonder Girls Land on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart

This isn’t exactly breaking news but we still found it worth sharing – International all-female pop group, The Wonder Girls, have finally found themselves listed on some Billboard metrics. No, they didn’t have a number single with “Be My Baby” or album with Wonder World, but rather, they have debuted at #33 on Billboard’s Social 50 Chart. Never heard of the chart? Here’s an explanation:

A ranking of the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites. Artists’ popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays, as measured by Next Big Sound.

It’s interesting to see Billboard continue to explore new ways to measure and quantify music consumption in an increasingly medium-diverse world. That being said, this is a notable milestone but I imagine it’s not quite the impact the ladies and JYP are willing to settle for. We’ll keep you updated along the way!

The Wonder Girls Release New English Single – “Be My Baby”

The Wonder Girls are back, at it again – taking on the same strategy from before of cross promoting their music across two different markets. They have a new KPOP album out called Wonder World, but their lead single “Be My Baby” was recorded in both a Korean and English version. It seems that even though they achieved only middling success in the US market last time, they seem intent on making sure SNSD isn’t the only KPOP girl group promoting a single in the states.

The Wonder Girls Set to Star in Teen Nick Movie – Wonder Girls At the Apollo

Don’t think for a second the Wonder Girls have finished making their move into US media. The mastermind JYP continues to make moves for the group, landing them a Teen Nick special feature film entitled Wonder Girls At the Apollo. The film will also star Teen Nick’s resident group, the School Gyrls, as they battle it off with the Wonder Girls at the famous Apollo theater. Honestly I have no idea what to expect but it’ll be interesting to see what the final product looks like.

Worst Ever: Wonder Girls = Hyori? Amazon Thinks We All Look Alike

Wow. OK. So allow me to preface this post with the disclaimer that I’m a huge fan of AmazonMP3. I purchase most of my digital music through there and since I’m not really plugged into the Apple Universe of products and services, Amazon remains the most viable option for me.

With that said I was browsing the site when I happened to peek at the suggestions they had for me. Lo and behold I see a Hyori’s face and I chuckle, because for one I didn’t expect her to be on AmazonMP3 and two it’s a humorous suggestion to begin with. I click the image and quickly realized this is the page for the Wonder Girls’ album Triology. For those of you not well versed in KPOP culture, those are two very different acts. Hyori is a women in her early 30′s that has made a career out of strategically capitalizing on her sex appeal while the Wonder Girls are a group of teens & young adults who symbolize the epitome of bubble gum pop. I’m a casual fan of both but there really is no mistaking the two.

Passport: John Park (of American Idol Fame) Competes on Korea’s Superstar K

On the last season of American Idol, John Park stood out for his crooner voice and ability to nearly charm the pants off of Shania Twain. John made it to the live semi-finals where he quickly fell into the middle of the pack and was ultimately voted off due to his flat performances and poor song choices. Personally I thought he’d be just another singer who comes and goes from the public radar but it looks like he’s giving his singing career via reality TV another shot. Superstar K, which has a lot in common with The X Factor and American Idol, is a Korean singing competition now in it’s second season. It was a run away hit and John appeared during the audition show and is rumored to be in the final top 10. He decided to sing Alicia Key’s “If I Ain’t Got You” along with a cool rendition of the Wonder Girls’ “2 Different Tears“. Judging from his audition below, he still has some issues with stage presence and “star quality”, but as the female judges Lena Park & Tasha exclaim, he’s still got that charm. Tiger JK and Seo In Young are the other judges in this episode. Gotta love JK’s closing comment “You gotta show American Idol wassup man.”

*Note: mNet’s been taking these clips down from Youtube with a vengeance, so I tried a different host. I can’t promise the clip will be up forever.

Decipher x Johnnyphlo x Ailee Release Remix of “Nobody” By the Wonder Girls

De, JP, and Ailee have been known to perform their rendition of the Wonder Girls hit “Nobody” (the R&B version) live on stage at various events. The song typically evokes a strong, favorable response from the crowd and I’ve been wondering why they never just went ahead and released it online as well. I guess I can’t stop asking because they have finally dropped it and it turned out great. Even though the original song is already a couple years old, I’m digging this version a lot.

Check it out for yourselves! And wooo, Ailee killed it on that bridge. You can DL it for free HERE.

The Wonder Girls Interview w/ MTV Iggy

MTV Iggy went behind the scenes on one of their photo shoots and got to ask each member questions one on one. It’s pretty crazy how much their has improved over a short period of time. The girls are definitely working hard and I oculdn’t help but notice how genuinely tired and homesick Sohee appeared to be. I hope they are able to all get some downtime and rest soon! Although they are the most successful Korean crossover group so far, no one can say it came easy.

The Wonder Girls arrived in New York City in May and answered all our burning questions — in English! Lim, the Wonder Girl’s newest member talks about how she’s been fitting in and Yubin dances to 2PM’s “Heartbeat”. You can hear all the girls show off their fluent English skills, and catch sneak peeks of the Summer of Fun photoshoot. Make sure you watch until the end though — Sun forgets someone very important!
