We first started talking about this project almost a year ago, and to see it finally come together with the finished project is a beautiful thing. For the new year, The Jubilee Project took some time to interview some YT friends about the changes that they would like to see in the world. We really believe that life is a gift and ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Why? Just ‘Cause.

2011 was a banner year in the world of Asian-American music. We saw more releases than ever, more artists achieving more mainstream success, and more fans across more ethnic backgrounds recognizing the great music by our artists. But along with more of the good comes more of the bad – with there also being an influx in mediocre music, an increase in hate and bigotry (check Youtube comments) and even more pressure to try and stand out. That’s why I wanted to look back on the past year and choose what I consider to be my top 10 favorite music videos from 2011. Now this doesn’t mean that these are the MVs with the top production values (although this is often the case), but rather it’s a reflection of what I found to be the most well executed, balanced, and entertaining visuals. On the very last page we also have a list of 10 honorable mentions that I thought deserved to be recognized as well.

So without futher ado let’s jump straight into number 10…

10. IAMMEDIC – “Spaceship” (article)

Electronica-Pop group IAMMEDIC took the concept of their song “Spaceship” to the max by injecting a silly Star Trek inspired motif and alien abduction. The video is fun, looks great, and represents the high energy of the audio perfectly. Deep? Not so much, but fun and well executed? Very much so.

Like the mother and daughter, we all have those moments where we neglect our parents, too busy living our own life, we often forget that on the other side our parents are working hard and have struggled to give us as good a life as they can.
Like the son, pressures from school can be the biggest struggle for young people. While it’s important, sometimes stepping away to find that true peace keeps us going. Whether it’s in art and photography, making videos, singing, dancing, or even video games with friends.
Like the father, jobs and financial worries can bring us down. Especially in these tough times, when so much is uncertain, the greatest gift we have is knowing that there is one constant, family.

It’s been years since Wong Fu first started to produce official music videos for artists, but things seem to be coming back around full circle as they are linking up with Magnetic North once again for the “Home:Word” visual with Taiyo Na & Sam Kang. Mag North & Wong Fu previously linked up for “Drift Away” about half a decade ago, and both teams have only grown in their respective crafts so I can’t wait to see the final cut of the visual to the title track from last year’s album. Look for the video to drop December 7th

It’s the holiday season, and what better time to be reminded of what’s most important in our lives. Not our job, our finals, or material things…but family, home, peace.

We’re proud to be releasing our latest music video on December 7th. “Home: Word” by Magnetic North and Taiyo Na ft. Sam Kang. We shot it at the beginning of this month in New York City (or first time shooting there), and you may already know our history with Magnetic North, so this is a very special project to us. Not our typical boy/girl stories, but still just as meaningful and often unsaid.

This year ISA Festival LA will be on October 1st, 2011 at Harry Bridges Memorial Park at the Queen Mary.

Far East Movement, B.o.B., Sean Kingston, Wong Fu Productions, and 10 others along with hosts Cathy Nguyen, Kevin Wu, and Ryan Higa return to Los Angeles to make this year’s ISA to be the biggest yet! It’s so big, we are calling it our first ever festival! Enjoy a full day of music, dance, film, and food at the Harry Bridges Memorial Park near the Queen Mary.

This is huge news for the trio of videographers known as WongFu! They have just announced that they will be heading off to Taiwan to direct an MV for the huge T-Pop star, Wang Leehom. Leehom is something of a household name in Taiwan, active in music since 1995, releasing over a dozen album with sales totaling in the multi-millions. This is a great look for WongFu and an affirming next step in their careers. Congrats!

We’ve been waiting awhile to make this big announcement… Next week we will be traveling to Taiwan to direct a new music video for international pop star Wang Leehom! This is one of the biggest opportunities to come our way recently and we’re so honored, nervous, and excited.

For those of you who do not know who Leehom is, it’s ok, we forgive you, haha. He’s by far one of all of Asia’s top stars. He’s a multiplatinum singer who’s been selling out arenas for over a decade, an actor, and a director among his list of accomplishments. What’s cool is that he was born in the USA, so he speaks perfect English too. He’s like a Justin Timberlake, except JT has only 2 solo albums and Leehom has had 14, haha.

So how did we land this job with such a huge star? It was a random night in June when we opened our email and saw an email from him and his manager saying they’ve seen our stuff on YouTube. We were so shocked, speechless, weren’t sure if it was real. A few emails later and we were talking about doing an mv together. And now, with things really finalized and confirmed we’re proud to say that we’re being flown out to Taipei next week!

We’re extremely grateful for this opportunity, especially since we’ve been fans of him for so many years (I remember hearing my first Leehom song in 2002!!) and just hope we can deliver. It’s our first time working with such a big celebrity, and in a brand new environment, totally out of our element, but we’re looking forward to the challenge. We’ll be sure to keep you updated, because it is your support that has helped get us to this poing. Thank YOU! But for now… virtual high five, wish us luck!
