Hello, World. This is long overdue but seeing as this site hasn’t been updated in nearly 5 years, I think it’s safe to say that a-Tunes.net has come to a quiet end. I’ll keep this semi-short but I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer some type of farewell message. I’ve decided to keep the site up for now (via the Archives below, or in the sidebar menu), for posterity’s sake, though I can’t promise that will be the case forever.
This site was started in 2008, back when Youtube was in its infancy, Myspace was still a thing, most people didn’t have a smartphone yet, and we all listened to our music via CDs (remember those?) and mp3 players rather than streaming it via apps. My heart behind the site was that “one day I hope that sites such as this won’t even need to exist because talent will speak for itself, regardless of ethnicity“. I don’t know if we’re quite there yet, but I believe we’re closer than we’ve ever been.
Artists, now more than ever, have the tools and autonomy to empower, advocate, and reach their audience in ways never seen before. In the past few years, we’ve witnessed countless Asian artists played on the radio, perform on national and international stages, secure big brand sponsorships, break Youtube and sales records, along with so many other other huge accolades. Mind you, much of this occurred while a-Tunes was already inactive.
It’s been an incredibly fulfilling duty/honor to run this site regularly for nearly a decade. Although it hasn’t been updated for quite some time, I’d like to think it played at least a small role in shining a light on the community of Asian artists, especially here in the US. I’m thankful for all the great people that I’ve had the pleasure to work with over the years, along with the amazing artists I’ve met and covered. Most of all, I’m grateful for you, the fans, for helping fuel a small but constant flame for the creators in this community. It is a flame that I am so proud and pleased to say continues to grow today.
So with that, I wish you all the best. I hope you continue to support the community and creators that you love.
Thanks again for everything!
PS – If you’re looking for an alternative resource and don’t already know about Traktivist, I implore you to check them out. Richie and co continue to carry the torch and do great work over there!
