Worst Ever: Mediocre Marketing 101
So I was doing my routine rounds among the various KPOP sites out there on teh internets and I came across this interesting little ad that made me do a double take.

Exactly what message am I supposed to get out of this? Of course, I recognized the individuals in the banner as members of the mega KPOP group SNSD but even still… it all seemed out of context.
What if I weren’t so familiar with the latest KPOP world and I saw this ad? Then all I would see are 5 attractive young girls beckoning me to “Come to Seoul! GO”. Is this what a tourist can expect in the capital of South Korea? Beautiful women waiting at the airport to welcome me and wait on me hand and foot?
Of course clicking the banner clears things up a little bit as I’m able to see this ad is focused on one small part of the Korean tourism campaign, the yearly Seoul Dream Concert series. And suddenly it all makes a litte more sense but then another question came to mind, how do the other 4 members who were cut from the ad feel about their exclusion? Were they too ugly to trick and intrigue the average web surfer to navigate to the Seoul Dream Concert youtube page? Did the advertisement agency think they simply weren’t good enough to include in this crudely photoshopped montage meant to superficially represent an entire nation’s appeal?
Oh well sucks to be them.
And let’s be real… if they wanted to use half of SNSD’s likeness to bring in tourism, were those REALLY the best photos they could find?
I swear some dude at the ad firm let his middle school aged nephew run this campagin. It’s so mediocre and confusing that I actually want to go to Seoul less now.
BoA’s Energetic MV + Interview
Just as promised a few weeks back, BoA has released her newest MV for the single ‘Energetic’.
I thought the video was OK. Better than ‘Eat You Up‘ but not as interesting as ‘I Did It For Love‘. Though I will say BoA’s dancing is fierce. I wasn’t too crazy about this song but its definitely not the worst on her album.
Plus there is an interview w/ EW which you can find quoted after the jump!

Chan endorses Verbal’s Ambush Clothing
Chan (most recently of Uptown fame) recently gave a quick video update featuring m-flo‘s frontman Verbal. Verbal launched a new clothing line called Ambush and they set the record straight on who’s really behind the fashion trends (were those subliminal shots at Big Bang I was hearing?).
Chan & Verbal have been cool since their days in Boston way back so it’s cool to see they are still tight after all these years.

Wonder Girls x Wendy Williams
Media personality Wendy Williams will have the Wonder Girls as a guest on her show on Monday July 20th. Wendy can be annoying at times but this is great exposure for the Wonder Girls.

Two Cents: Wait, is this OK?
Earlier this week I read about Korean musician MC Mong’s upcoming comeback and had a positive initial reaction being an MC Mong fan. I thought his last couple albums were definitely solid and I really enjoy the fact that he’s a rapper that doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s the kind of guy who seemingly doesn’t mind being the butt of a joke.
Then I paused to think for a second about this new image/style concept… an ‘Indian Boy’. I scratched my head… and asked myself… “Wait, is this OK?” Look at the following images…

Crown J footage from NY Concert released
AllKPop has posted performance footage from Crown J‘s recent event in NY.
I can’t believe he “made it rain” haha.
Was it just me or was that a very mild event? Compare his footage with that of the Epik High/FM concert (which I believe is at the same venue) a few months back and the difference is like night and day. I guess Crown J hasn’t quite developed the appeal and stage presence of the artists on the Map the Soul tour.
Oh well, at least it didn’t look like a total flop but it didn’t look like the can-not-miss event it was made out to be either.
