Neah Lee, an acoustic christian musician, has released a new track entitled “tragedy” in remembrance of a 10 person mission team (including her aunt and uncle) that died in a car wreck in the phillipines.
While it’s great to hear new material from her its terrible that it came from these circumstances.
I encourage you to check out the track and maybe leave a message to show your support. It’s beautiful yet haunting.
Read her story behind the music after the break.
Taken from her myspace:
This past Wednesday, a tragic automobile accident occurred in Manila, Philippines, where a minivan lost control and crashed into a concrete wall, killing all 10 passengers. The victims were there on a short mission trip. The victims included Neah’s uncle, Park Su-jin (52), the senior pastor at the “Dreaming Church” in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, and his wife and Neah’s aunt Han Yeon-oh (52), assistant pastors Park Tae-seong (38) and Gwak Byeong-bae (33) and his wife Choi Mi-Kyeong, Park Seong-don (46), minister of the Dreaming Church in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province, and his wife Jeong Jeong-hee (46) and daughter Park Bo-a (5), and two local deacons, one identified as Lee In-cheol.
“In memory of my beautiful aunt and uncle whose lives were filled with so much love and service towards others….lives marked with boldness and faithfulness without any regrets, I recently recorded a version of “Tragedy” in their honor. This song was originally written on the guitar. But this song came into mind after many hours of shedding tears and wrestling with the storm in my heart. As I walked into the studio the following night with a heart full of tears and pain, I sat at the piano and began to play this song. I was reminded in those next few minutes the reason why I first wrote this song. It was my letter to the suffering world that this was not the way things were supposed to be…that we are not supposed to get “used to” death and suffering….”
“That night, my dear friend Robin and I laid down a rough track. Then after a day of sitting on it, I knew I had to share this with whoever needed to hear this…as a part of remembering the lives that have been lost, as well as a part of this process of grieving. Too many times I think we avoid grief, we want to move on from it as quickly as possible….because it’s too painful, or we feel like we have to be strong….but as I’m realizing more and more, we need to grieve, and grieve well. And to each person, that will look different….It definitely helps to have a great community of friends and family to help you grieve well….and I want to thank all my dear friends who have helped me these past few days, the phone calls, the emails, the listening ears, the hugs….and a special thanks to Robin Lai and Victor Lin (piano) who made this recording possible.”
“Through this process I’m learning more to allow myself to be fully angry at the ruthlessness of death and suffering….and to arrive at a place of hope…that death and suffering don’t have the last word…And that’s the hope my aunt and uncle lived by and the hope they gave to others..including me.”
“There’s a line in the chorus that says “Those latter rains are gonna fall in a little….its on the brink of spilling over.” There’s alot of tragedy in our world, alot of unanswered questions…but tragedy will only last for a little while…..it won’t be longer…for the dawn of a new day will soon be ready to spill over…Yeon-Oh Eemo and Eemoboo, it won’t be longer…I miss you so much…saranghaeyo.”
