Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the tragic death of R&B superstar Aaliyah. As a tribute, City Boy has put together a track in her remembrance that serves as a celebration her life, music and career. Overall, it’s a fond expression of mourning and commemoration. You can hear the song below and DL the track for free, here.

Dear Aaliyah,

Its been 10 years since what happened and til’ this day, I am still very crushed and heartbroken due to what had occurred. I was 11 years old when it happened, I was barely getting into music and had started rapping at the age. Music inspired me as a whole and you were of the many people that was around that I had listened to alot at my age. As cliche as it might sound but your “I Miss You” pretty much describes how I feel right now just writing this.

You were so young, so talented, so professional and let alone very beautiful. You were the female 2Pac of the 90’s generation. Some of these kids nowadays don’t even know who you are or they have never had a chance to listen to a piece of your music. I love your music, I love your confidence, I love you as a whole. I could only imagine how DMX, Missy & Timbaland must feel. We miss you, Rest in peace!

“Its been too long and I’m lost without you, What am I gonna do? Said I’ve been needing you, wanting you. Wondering if you’re the same or who’s been w/ you, Is your heart still mine? I wanna cry sometimes.. I MISS YOU!”

Sincerely, Derez Brown
