OK, so fobby group name aside, I gotta admit I am fairly impressed with this group. Although I have to admit I don’t know a whole lot about them. The group consists of 3 guys born in the early 80’s, Big Tone, PilKang, and LeeHan. They are a bit different from other KPOP/K-HipHop groups in that the major component to their music is the beatbox. Given I’ve only heard pre-recorded material that is typically heavily layered but nethertheless they do it with a lot of polish. I just wonder how good they would sound live, without the ability to layer their sounds.
At the very least their tracks showcase their arranging ability. They make very faithful reproductions of songs they cover. I’ve also heard one of their own original songs, Be My 1004, but wasn’t as impressed. They used a synth loop and some other non beat box elements and lost some of their charm. It’s still a decently catchy song though.
I hope to hear more from them in the future. They certainly have a good deal of potential and seem to make the right choices when balancing artistic and commercial directions. Plus there’s no other korean group (that I know of) quite like them.
