Cilla Chan Shares an Original – “Sailor”

Cilla Chan is a singer on Youtube that is fairly well known for her numerous covers. However, she’s decided to share some original material in the form of a song she wrote years ago called “Sailor” based on some personal experiences from her time in high school. It’s a heartfelt emotional ballad with a lot of potential. Hopefully she’ll have the opportunity to lay down a studio version of the track soon.

MY FIRST ORIGINAL ON YOUTUBE! Wrote this when I was in 10th grade in high school (which is now 5-6 years ago GEEZ). One of my really good friends Emily Brotman wrote a gorgeous poem about confessing to and facing your insecurities and being a “Sailor” and being able to pilot your own journey in life 🙂 At the time we were both facing a lot of pressure in high school… lots of mental breakdowns (hence the ‘saltwater’ tears :P) but the song is more about realizing that all of the effort will be worth it at the end and love restores us at the end of the day.

So I sort of re-wrote it and turned it into a song which I performed for the first time on Singapore’s POWER98. Decided to put it up for all those who’ve been requesting an original. Will be putting up more soon!

“SAILOR” by CILLA CHAN

Lyrics:

The weight of this realization keeps pushing me down
Lost is the explanation, for the grey around me
The anchor on the inside, feel lost in the crowd
All confidence drowns, in seas of this illusion

Saltwater belongs in oceans, not on faces
Creases belong on seashores, not other places
Recovery, love is at your door

The weight on her shoulders is the air
A dancing fairytale, without a care
She paints in metaphors, on wings of butterflies
Can’t describe the color grey, she dreams her life away

Saltwater belongs in oceans, not on faces
Creases belong on seashores, not other places
Recovery, love is at your door

BRIDGE:
Sailor face the sea and take your shift on the stern
Though the rain may fall hold on cuz it will pass by
Throw abandon to the wind & live like there’s no end
Cause you never know what you’ll know, unless you try

Saltwater belongs in oceans, not on faces
Creases belong on seashores, not other places (x2)
Recovery, love is at your door
