I have to say, this Mixtape is more along the lines of a true album or at least an EP. I loved to see how much he’d grown as an artist since his last mixtape. To be honest, J. Reyez has never been much of a lyricist – his strength lies in his storytelling using rather simple rhyme schemes. This is not necessarily a bad thing as he plays to his strengths: experience (and thus, compelling story lines), charismatic voice and presence, and mainstream appeal. Though it lacks a clear focus or theme, I think it marks an important step in J. Reezy’s career. I look forward to more material from him.
