Worst Ever: Clapz Shizzayne Steals Lyrics from AM Kidd

[Update 3/29] It seems as if both parties have discussed the matter. Credit has been given where credit is due. Check the end of the post for AM Kidd’s tweets regarding the matter

Take a listen to the following song/MV by UK artist, Clapz Shizzayne. Go ahead, watch the clip, listen to the lyrics. It seems like your average, independent R&B Hip-Hop song, right?

Well, if you’re an AM Kidd fan, you may find yourself doing a double take since the lyrics should seem vaguely familiar. That’s because they were lifted word for word from AM’s 2009 song, “I Can Be”. Everything was taken from AM without so much a credit, shoutout, or mention. Clapz took the lyrics, recited them over another beat, and called it a day. Below is AM’s original version.

So yea… now we’ll admit we don’t have any more context into the story. Maybe Clapz is a long time AM Kidd fan, and just neglected to put some notes in the Youtube description. Maybe he meant it as an homage and/or remix. Either way, AM Kidd had no idea about the song until it was brought to his attention, and as of this writing, there was no indication given on Clapz behalf that this was taken/inspired/copied from AM in any way. To the unknowing, it’s just another “original” song and video.

The following is AM Kidd’s reaction.

AM Kidd:

I work hard to give my audience original music. I always show love & respect to all artists who show me the same..

but if you steal my song (lyrics), make a music video, claim it to be yours, and give no credit to me… that’s a different story. Covers are cool but stealing it (& claiming it) from an independent artist with no record label is NOT cool. Please go to this video and dislike it! He stole my entire song “I Can Be”… for real?

please be respectful!

So there you have it. As the story stands, it’s one indie artist, stealing from another, all in the pursuit of a little bit of shine. Too bad Clapz was likely unaware how deep AM Kidd’s following runs, and that even across the pond they would catch on to his ruse.

  1. AM Kidd is too nice. That kid straight-up said it was his song. W/e tho as long as he’s happy. THE KID STILL CANT RAP FOR SHIT!!!!!!!!

  2. exactly if you knew the story you wont be sayin ” i thought it was my song!” since am knows the real story he knows why i thought it was mine! and i never even said it was mine anyways! but let by gones be bygones

    1. how about you tell us the story and we can decide if it’s even possible to take you seriously as an artist?

  3. the real story? if you hadn’t blocked and erased your public information, one of your status says “look at the story i wrote for my girls” you labeled it with YOUR NEW TITLE. there is no “real story” the real story is that you jacked it thinking it was okay. doesn’t matter. you didn’t have much a career to begin with. plagiarism is plagiarism. oh by the way, you might wanna change your “official video title” to “am kid cover video”. way to be a buzzkill to some dope lyrics.

  4. Well, this article was certainly entertaining to my taste. Good job with the article and Good Luck to the little man that got caught.
