Come February 2nd 2014, the United States will be in it’s yearly hoopla cycle of grid-iron madness as the culmination of another NFL season reaches it’s climatic end. Weeks after many folks will have tasted the sweet glory of the Shiva or the dubious “honor” of the Sacko, they will be crowded around the television set and watching Superbowl XLVIII in MetLife stadium. Of course one of the big traditions that accompany such an event (besides the colossal commercial blitzes) is the halftime show – and it’s just been announced that part Filipino-American artist, Bruno Mars, has been given the nod for the event.
That’s huge. It was just a few years ago that he was known as the guy who sang on B.o.B.’s “Nothin’ On You”, but now he’s established himself as a musical heavyweight in his own right. He joins a shortlist of artists of Asian descent that have graced the Superbowl halftime stage – including apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas and M.I.A.
We’ll certainly be looking forward to the show!
