Tyga Speaks Ill of Label Mate Drake & Nicki; Voices Displeasure with Young Money

Tyga[1]

Our coverage of Tyga is spotty at best, but he’s big enough where you can hear most of the news on him via other outlets. But we did want to share with you an interesting development that has recently come to light. The part Vietnamese rapper appears to be on less-than-stellar terms with his label, Young Money, particularly with the flagship artists, Drake & Nicki Minaj. He had the following to says about them:

“I tend to distance myself from them,” he said of the Young Money camp. “I’m tryna go independent. I don’t really get along with Drake. I don’t really get along with Nicki.”

But with the little bit of context added below, I can’t say he’s being irrational.

“I think being signed to Young Money, everybody felt like they had to force a relationship ‘cause Wayne put us together,” he said. “At the end of the day the reason why I signed to Young Money is because of Wayne. Not because of Drake, not because of Nicki. It was because of Wayne and my relationship with him. I try to be cool with everybody, but sometimes, everybody just has different personalities, motives, and different characters.”

It’s true. Not everyone gets along. Groups break up all the time, so no one can expect an entire label to be completely kumbaya and kosher. But the Godfather of the YMCMB movement, Birdman, had some deliberate words for Young Tyga:

“He might be in his feelings,” he said. “And I got all love and respect for Tyga, that’s been my lil’ bro, but my intake is, I’m family oriented — either you in or you out. If you’re out, you’re an outcast to me. If you’re in, you’re family.”

And you know what? I agree with him. As Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich always says – “That’s family business”. Even if there are rifts among the members, I’m not sure it’s appropriate for Tyg to air his dirty laundry publicly. Although I think it goes deeper than just relations, as he has also expressed disapproval with how the label has handled the launch of his upcoming albumThe Gold Album: 18th Dynasty.
