I give a lot of credit when an artist performs original work as opposed to a cover. But the clip of Ailee singing Beyonce’s “Halo” is one of two exceptions on this list, and that’s solely based on the merit of the performance. The singer from Jersey is currently preparing for a large-scale debut in South Korea, and one of the first stops along the way was a trainee showcase on national TV last fall. Her near flawless performance quickly made her the most queried person on Korea’s search engines and introduced her to nation as a powerhouse act that’s here to stay. As you can see from the faces of her competitors, she dropped jaws with that vocal… including mine, even though I thought I already knew what to expect.
