MTV Cancels America’s Best Dance Crew

All good things must come to an end, right? While I’m sure this wasn’t their intention, MTV’s Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew became something of a national stage for Asian American dancers. They’ve been present in nearly every season with the many of the winning crews being predominantly composed of  Asian members. Unfortunately, it was announced a few days ago that the show is coming to a close and will not air for an 8th season. Remember, this is the show that introduced the Jabbawockeez, Kaba Modern, Super Cr3w, Quest Crew, We Are Heroes, Poreotix, I aM mE and many many others on a national level. I imagine it’s ratings have been slipping but we’re still sad to see it go.

  1. I have a love-hate relationship for this show.

There were a lot of things I hated about it: JC and Lil Mama seriously did talk out of their asses half the time. The show was extremely dominated by power moves and stunts and tricks and what not. The camera angles were @#$%. The challenges were stupid. The music and remixes sucked.

But through all the rain and the pain, ABDC is a dance crew show. A competitive show can only be so good. Whoever pleased the audiences the most was bound to win. Just like any person who was really praying for their crews to win (So Real, Kaba Modern, Mos Wanted, Massive Monkees, Rhythm City, etc.), It’s hard for me to like a show when it almost never goes my way. But that’s just the way it is.

Am I sad that the show is cancelled? Sorta. I wonder how all the other dance shows will do, and if there will be any new shows to emerge.
