At the end of last week, we had a little retrospective look at Psy’s career since “Gangnam Style”. And sure enough, the South Korean artist is back to try and recapture his prior success, this time with the help of veteran rapper, Snoop Dogg.
Now, Snoop seems like one of those guys who will pretty much collaborate with anyone. Throw enough money his way and he’ll give you a 16, no problem. But he’s featured so prominently in this song it’s more like a Snoop joint, featuring Psy. I’ll be honest with you, at first listen, I hated this track.
Upon second listen, I realized I kinda like the beat but still detest the chorus. The rest of the song ain’t bad, though it’s not incredibly memorable either. My final opinion? Lesser songs have become bigger hits, so there is a small chance for that to still happen here. But ultimately I think this one may become a mild hit, but don’t see it becoming the second advent of “Gangnam Style”.
But I am glad he chose to mix it up every so slightly, instead of sticking to the script (a la “Gentleman“). It’s still got Psy’s style written all over it, but with more of a LA bass feel.
