One year ago today a-Tunes was born. The site has grown, lots of news has been covered, and hopefully we’ve helped bring just a little bit more exposure to the Asian and Asian-American musicians out there. This blog was started to fill a niche void, a place people can come to catch up on whats going in with Asian artists in the US and occasionally even abroad.
As of this post, there has been 258 posts and 46,056 hits to this site in the past year. I know that’s absurdedly tiny compared to the 1,000,000 unique visitors that recently hit Soompi in a month but it’s still a long way from where we started when we were getting 15-20 hits a day. I say ‘we’ even though this site is still being run by one person, myself. But I’ve come to see all of you readers as part of the same community, the same cause, and for that I thank you.
Ultimately, the hope is that one day there will no longer be a need for this blog. I look forward to the time when you can rely on MTV, BET, Rolling Stone, XXL, etc to find news on your favorite Asian-American artists because the media and the masses allow them to be culturally relevant. A time where having a site dedicated to Eastern musicians would seem absurd, prejudiced, and unnecessary because it shouldn’t really be about ethnicity at all, it should be about the music and the art. When an asian artist can be seen as a sex symbol if they so choose or conversely a nerdy, kung fu loving, anime watching singer without feeling like a stereotypical gimmick. Because at the very end of the day, I support the art of expression… and making sure everyone has the same chances to share it.
Anyways with that said, thank you all so much for your support. Here’s to wishing for the shortest possible future need for this blog!

congrats on your one year!! I’ve been following this blog since January and I’ve since discovered some pretty awesome hidden gems. Your WORST EVER category actually introduced me to Davichi who isn’t all bad actually. But I often find myself going back to KO the rapper just to get a good laugh now and then.
yo, thanks so much for dropping a comment!
haha i agree, davichi is actually a very talented group, just their lyric writers were terrible on that one song =)
and KO is great hahaha.
Congrats on the anniversary. Definitely fills a void that needs to be filled. Like you I hope for a day when “there will no longer be need for this blog”, but until then I’ll continue to be informed by your posts. Keep up the great blogging.
Congrats bro! One step at a time. We’ll eventually get to where you want us to. I’m trying to get us there just like you are LOL! I’m glad that you offer an outlet to Asian artists. If we don’t have each other, who else do we have? Thank you for holding us up.
